In the growing American realm of NO CHILD SHALL BE LEFT BEHIND IN THIS REAL WORLD comes word that more schools have banned ... if you can believe this: tag.
Heaven forbid that any American child shall be called "IT."
And you thought the MCA was the biggest threat to American freedoms

who calls children 'it'?
if it's refering to the game of tag (can't be arsed reading the article but, seriously, sports illustrated as a source?!!?) when i played at school the actual word 'it' and it's potential connotations never occured to me til i was much to old to be affected by that sort of thing.

I mean the constant topics on the banning of the game of tag. It is not so big that it can be rehashed over and over. We simply do not need to hear every writers opinion on the subject.

Well I apologise, but I should point out that though my join date says otherwise, I was unable to enter the forum until only three or four days ago, so I hadnt seen that, so your snide remarks were unesscary, and if you could have posted the link straight away as opposed to when I asked, I would have taken it better. But you displayed a very American characteristic (and while you yourself may not be American) of assuming that because you know something, and even though you havent diplayed it, it is common knowledge. It wasnt deducable from the story itself that it was old, so I'm sorry to bore you. But to be frank, if you'd seen it before and didnt want to again, why did you post? After all all posting does is to keep it on the top page longer.

unfortunatly, any attempt to bring out the older thread will bring out calls of "Grave Digging" which would have the Mod's probably locking it down... so to be fair, those feeling that such a topic has been hashed to death need not post in it. NSG is constantly getting new people on. Discussion should be encouraged, not discouraged.
and to stay on topic...

You ever played the game benchball? This is how British schools deal with this problem, as the way it works means almost everyone gets the ball at some stage
2 gym benches are placed oppistie each other, at a distance of roughly 3/4 of the length a basketball court. Teams consist of on avarage 7 a side. One person from each team starts on the bench, stood up. The ball is then thrown upwards from the centre and the ball is caught, thrown and moved in a simmilar fashion to netball (IE unable to travel with the ball, thus demanding more teamwork). A team to score must throw their ball to their person standing on the bench. When a person has succeeded and they have caught the ball, the person who threw the ball stands on the bench also, meaning that now two people are available to catch the ball.
The advantage this has is that the best players are removed from the game at the earliest stage, giving the less athletic children the ability to build their confidence up as they play more. And because there are less people in the team each time a goal is scored, they will become more vital each time and thus get the ball more often.

(i misread your post. :p)
One variant to Tag that I played as a child, was teams of "it" people. say... 4 people were "it" and the rest is played like tag. only instead of avoiding one person, you have to avoid 4.. and if you're not paying attention to who's it at the time... :D

What snide remark? The writer of the article had a good point and this topic is old. I see no problem pointing both out. I admit that I didn't see your join date but that doesn't really matter. If it wasn't me someone else would have pointed out the age of this topic. But you are right, I should just stop posting here.

and while that does work, it also places the focus on those without skills. basically the longer you are on the court, the poorer your skills... and since children tend to be honest about their emotions... the more laughter one gets...
Not in my experiance. The longer you're on the court, the more encouragement you seemed to get. That was the case in my schools anyway, dont know if American children are more brutal

Not acording to the date of the article. If it was old, he should have posted the links to the other threads in his first post

Of course it matters, If I joined after the other articles, how am I ment to know. Am I supposed to go trawling through the forums checking if everything I post is new?

It could just be my browser, as I vaguely recall a location indicator being there before, but I cant see anything there atm. Will check my browser, the uni network has some eccentric filters.

It's okay, some (NOT ALL)of the regular, daily NSGers don't welcome newbies to well. Just yesterday, they got pissed at me for having a new post which was allegedly already done, however I did check the 5 pages and could not find it. I still got crucified. If only the few dailies could learn to be a bit more nicer and welcoming to the New comers.
I haven't figured it out why they are so mean except maybe because they are living miserable lives and are filled with hate. Oh well...
Back to the topic.....Contact sports are getting banned for several reasons.....frivilous lawsuits, parents not being parents, and schools are in much need for reform and more spending they simply can't afford the chance of a lawsuit....Rediculous.....

But I want to mention a game I played as a kid, called "Cocky Laura" for no reason I know. It's like tag, but there's more than one 'it.' You have two 'bars' (safe areas) and when everybody else runs from one to the other, you have to also.
Sounds a lot like the old game of British Bulldog
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Bulldogs_(game)
The play area is usually a large hall or large area of a playing field. There are no limits to the size of the pitch nor the number of players as long as there is enough space for the players to manoeuvre and enough players to have fun.
One or two players are selected as the Bulldogs, and they stand in the middle of the play area. All remaining players stand at one end of the area.
The purpose is to get from one end of the pitch to the other (home) whilst avoiding the bulldogs in the middle. The game is initiated by the bulldogs calling "British Bulldogs 1, 2, 3" (although this may vary from school to school). As the non-bulldog players run from one end of the pitch to the other, the bulldogs must catch as many of them as possible. Once caught the runner then becomes a bulldog and attempts to catch the runners. Once at the home end of the pitch a player is safe. The game then starts another round, home shifts to the opposite end of the pitch and on the call of "British Bulldogs 1, 2, 3" the round begins. The first two caught or last two caught in each game become the Bulldogs for the next one.

that was a great game. along with 'blood ball' possibly the most fun you can have in a field before you reach puberty.

In what fashion is this related at all?
In the fashion that THEY'RE ERODING YOUR FUCKING FREEDOMS! First there's Gitmo law being changed so basically anyone, even innocent Americans, can be shoved in there and tortured. Then there's the guy who was arrested for telling an official he didn't like government policies. And now they're starting to ban entertainment, for some sinister, paranoid-sounding (but not actually paranoid at all) purpose such as brainwashing you into robot-like servants of the government's agenda (not to be confused with serving American in what you believe to be a just cause).
Reminiscent of the "teachers shall now use lavander ink, not red, to grade and correct papers" bulletin.
