Im liberal (In the US sense) on the items listed; As much as it pains me to see the damage to society that some of these items produce -particularly the Spears albums.

It's called freedom. Some of us like it.

Of the substances listed the only one I've ever consumed was alcohol (in fact, I had 2 pints with dinner last night), and I have no real desire to try any of the others, but it's not my place to stop other people from doing what they want.

I am for individual choice on drugs. You could never convince me that drugs are somehow "good" for you, but ultimately it's an individual choice, and only the individual is responsible for it. (I, personally, do not and never will use hard drugs).

I'm waaaaaaaaaay out there on the left on these matters, philosophically.

Of course, I'd never use most of them, but hey, that's me. I'm too personally conservative.

One of the few things I am conservative about. Drugs can ruin lives.

If you want to spend a weekend with some weed and reruns of "Flavor of Love 2," and a whole bowl of Goldfish crackers* you should be able to do so legally.

*Not like I've ever done that or anything. Um, yeah. Ok.

I say legalise them, because prohibition certainly hasn't worked.

*shrugs*

I am of the opinion that what we do with our bodies should be a legal gray area. There should be no laws limiting (or forcing) any substances. However, as soon as the substance is forced on another, then traditional assault laws should take precedent. You blow smoke in my face? You just assaulted me.

Agreed.

Also agreed. But, it should be made clear that trying to charge somebody with assault for doing that when you're in a bar that allows smoking (or any other area where smoking is generally accepted) isn't grounds for legal action.

Well, in all seriousness, the American legal system has such loopholes. Many, many loopholes.

I’ve never partaken in any illicit substance, and I don’t ever plan on it. What other people do is entirely up to them. Whatever makes them happy.

I believe all drugs should be legalized, prohibition won't stop anyone from doing drugs. Drugs can ruin lives/families as much as alcoholism can, but theres no reason anyone should be punished for doing something to themselves that doesn't harm anyone else.

Im liberal when it comes to drugs, and most things, but the Britney Spears thing is interesting because its not like other drugs; it hurts other people directly while leaving the user relatively unscathed. Its more like anthrax or arsnic, any poison really. These harmful substances should be illegal because they are used against other people directly. I suppose Britneys ok as long as they keep the volume down though. Shame shes not pretty anymore.

ur kidding right? Now, I didnt read the intire fourm, but I had to reply to this. Smoking only calms the nerves after u get addicted. It does NOT reduse the risk of metal ilness, but it does increase the risk of a respatory desiese leading to death, and it does increase the liklyhood of getting cancer. Sorry, if I annoyed anyone, I didnt read the whole 2 page fourm

It's fun to match illegal or harmful things to what party they're associated with:

Painkillers: Republican
Marijuana: Democrat
Guns: Republican
Money: Republican
Country Music: Republicans
Antideppressants (Could be harmful): Democrats
Viagra: Republicans
Lawyers: Both
The BORG: Democrats
The ASC: Republicans
Nun Outfits: Republicans
Short Skirts: Democrats, plus Ann Coulter.
Chainsaws: Republicans
Bridges: Republicans
Series of Tubes: Republicans

I was very bored...

If it floats their boat then I've no problem with that on it's own.

The only exception is if it could harm others, smoking does, excessive alcohol can kill bystanders, people under the influence of drugs can be dangerous to others.

People may have a right to do what they want to their own body but everyone also has the right to live their lives without being contaminated by other people's habits.

In Britain they are banning smoking in public enclosed spaces (or something like that) I for one will welcome it, if I wanted to die I'd find a quicker and more painfree way to do so than cancer from second hand smoke.
