Old games that nobody else has played.

Played any games that seem to only be known by you?

I remember an old game called Champions of Zulula. Kind of a 2D Smash Bros. Pretty cool. I think I might be the only person who's ever played it. >_>

I used to play my mom's old hand-held football game, the one with the lights as the players and 4 buttons to move them with. I don't think anyone has played those things sense the 70's. Anyway one day I took it out to the range and :sniper: the fucking thing because it wouldn't stop making the high pitched tackeling sound.

Humbug. I mentioned it in Kanabia's dungeon thread, and am playing it right now. Obviously other people have played it, but no one I've ever met has even heard about it. I remember playing loads of obscure games on my Amiga as well, but I can't actually remember what most of them were called. One was Wild Cup Soccer...that was fairly amusing. You could win matches by either scoring more than the opposition or killing all of the other team's players...and using their heads as balls.

I remember a game from the early 90's that I would play on this guy's computer, it was like you were a doctor and you had to diagnose your patient and perform the surgery, you had to do it right though or you would kill them, you had to keep an eye on his oxygen levels, and tie off veins correctly and everything, and if you screwed up you had to tell the family and they would say "nice audition for a slasher movie" or something..... I don't remember much, but I think I was like taking out his appendix and I could get through the surgery and then he would crash when I was sewing him up and he would always die..........

I never played that one, since I never had a PS1, even though I have heard of it. I guess I have no excuse in this age of broadband and console emulators.

My roms folder is roughly a gig in size. That's a lot, considering how little memory those things take up per game.

Maybe there was a remake of the old series, because I can definitely say that the original Life and Death is from that time period.

I got into the whole emulation thing about 8 years ago or so, but unfortunately i've never managed to retain a collection from one PC onto the next. Currently I have about 300mb worth. (not counting a single really cool Sega CD game called The Third World War)

OMG, yes. I for a while thought I was imagining the game..... apparently they just kept making new "Life and Death" games through 2004 and stuff.

I would tell people about the game and they would say "there isn't a game like that" and "what fun is it to do surgery?"

I found some of the games on Amazon, I am so buying one for my kid for Christmas.

For a large collection of SNES, GB, GBA, and arcade games (Metal Slug, Gunbird 2, etc). I don't like emulating PS1 games, though I can, because they run at a higher speed than they would on an actual PS1, so it's not the same, and it doesn't feel as fun with a keyboard.

There isn't a way to slow down the emulation?

And yeah, Neo Geo emulation rocks - Metal Slug and Strikers 1945 Plus are permanently on my computer. Finally I have a chance of beating those ridiculous arcade games. :D Makes me wonder if anyone actually did it before emulation came around....

(oh, and it might pay to hunt around for a cheap PC gamepad. You can get exact replicas of PS1 gamepads for pretty cheap, but I stuck with a SNES style pad.)

Ugh.

But you know, the worst thing about them is that the ending scenes are almost uniformly terrible (the Metal Slug series is the one exception i've discovered). You usually get "You Win It!" or "You save kingdom from evil!" or something else in poor english for your hours of effort and $384 in change. I guess they figured nobody would ever beat them anyway, but still, you feel ripped off. I want a reward.

Yeah, you can slow it down with throttle and frameskip, but it takes so much adjustment and it's never quite right no matter what you do, so I don't even bother.

But you have to remember that all those arcade games were specifically designed to suck as many quarters from you as possible - they didn't WANT you to beat the game.

And I don't play PS games on my comp anyway, and I'm very happy with using my keyboard for SNES and GBA roms, especially since I can use my spacebar for the accelerate frames key and make everything go really fast - talk about powerleveling, just hit space and walk back and forth and tap whatever you set B or A to (usually Z or X for me) and stuff just dies. FF games, Chrono Trigger, any Pokemon game, Super Mario RPG, and pretty much any other RPG game with similar battle setups will be much easier to train through. I don't consider it to be cheap because honestly, I was training like this on the SNES system itself as well, it just took an assload amount of time to get anywhere near as strong as I can with the fastforward, so I'm just timesaving. =)

Hooray for getting to level 15 in Earthbound before even fighting Frank!

What exactly do you mean by "old"?

The PCs owned by my family and me have quite a range of old. I've played games on all of them. For many hours and pretty much anything that would run, starting some time in 1989.

Zenith XT 7/14MHz processor, 19MB harddrive, 2 51/4 floppy, Hercules graphic card with CGA emulator, 12" black/yellow monitor, MSDos 4.something and Win 2.something.
386 25/36MHz processor, 30+80MB harddrives, 51/4 and 31/2 floppy, SVGA graphics, 15" color monitor, MSDos 5/6.something and Windows 3.something (Still at home in my room, fully functional last time I tried).
Pentium I 100MHz processor, 2+20GB harddrives, CD-Rom and 31/2 floppy, VGA graphics, 17" color monitor, Windows 95 (Still at home in my room, fully functional last time I tried).
AMD K7-700 processor, 20+40GB harddrives, CD-ROM, 8X4X12X DVD-Burner and 31/2 floppy (My current, quite old computer...).

The year: 1992.

The place: Perth, Western Australia.

The platform: NES.

The game: Ufouria

In a world of abject Saturday boredom, a child finds a mysterious, convoluted password scrawled on a torn scrap of paper stuffed into a game cartridges case.

A game will be discovered.

A hero will rise.

It is no doubt an issue caused by inaccurate emulation. Myself, I use ePSXe with Pete's OpenGL2 plugin for gfx (which handles the timing), and it keeps correct speed. I figured that out after awhile, you're supposed to kill your NPCs the moment that they join your party and then raise their bodies back as zombies (though I think this was only possible in the first one) to be mindlessly obedient cannon-fodder.

I'm using ePSXe as well - care to link me to your plugin? I'm not sure if I use that one, but it sounds familiar. Here (http://www.pbernert.com/html/gpu.htm) it is, along with some more by the same person.

Leather Godesses of Phobos. A teacher in high school gave it to me. She had no idea what it was and couldn't get it to work, so she let me have it. I got home, popped the game into the computer and it was all over from there.

It had three levels of play: tame, mild(?), and lewd. It asked my age, so I put in 89 and got to play a basically x-rated game. My teacher was mortified when I told her what the game was about.

I don't much know about old games. However I hear there's a really awesome one called "A Life." I want to have A Life. I hear its just about the best thing on ever, and if your really good at it, it goes on and on for years.

The fact that so many people here think that PS1 qualifies as an "OLD" game is kinda hilarious.

Mind you, I remember when pinball machines were analog and an amazing high score would be something like 3,000 points..... but then aventually Pong came out and things got better.

I still have Space Invaders.... on a cassette tape for the Apple IIc.

Now if I could ever find an original Mach III table console with the laserdisc player intact.... I'd be in heaven!

I was a big fan of Nobunaga's Ambition on the NES.

I have played a game called Ash on the old Amstrad that used to be my grandmother's. (at some point, she got it from a school she teached at, as it was too old. if only I could get the floppy drive working again...) It is a text-based adventure where you are to get out of a burning building.

I still have the soundtrack to that game seared into my skull after hours and hours and hours of it repeating in my brain.

Good times, good times.

Someone from my generation. I played TI-Trek on my uncle's old TI-99/4A on a tape drive, and let's get out of the world of video games for a minute.

How about Rail Baron from Avalon Hill Games? Or Wabbit Wampage?

Lets see who remembers these....

PC

-Maniac Mansion (mentioned once)
-Day of The Tentacle (Mainiac M's sequel and totally different)
-Sam and Max: Hit the road (This one wouldnt make it past the censors today)
-Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (Brilliance.)
-Kings Quest (started getting repetitive after 10)
-Monkey Island I-III (Still among the best games I ever played)

I miss the Lucas Arts classics :(
(Though, Kings Quest was seirra, the rest are all LA)

You might like DEFCON (http://www.everybody-dies.com) by Introversion Software; I've heard the two have similarities.

Meh, i'm hanging out for a rerelease of something like Bravo Romeo Delta (http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=143), a quasi-realistic sim of nuclear war. It shows its age, but a remake could be very cool - your objective is to cripple the opposing power while avoiding armageddon - you can play as either the USA or USSR (well, the USSR is actually referred to as the CIS, but for all intents and purposes they're the same animal in the game). Pretty much all types of missiles from the period are simulated, and different targets have different levels of structural strength required to destroy or incapacitate them. As far as I know, all of the targets in-game are real targets - you can hit everything from the Los Alamos research center to NORAD HQ or the Kremlin. I've never been able to win it. The closest i've come is hitting their launch-control centers and satellite communication relays so that they can't hit you as fast as you hit them. I suppose you win when you destroy their entire communications infrastructure or leave all of their major cities piles of burning radioactive rubble, but the death toll is usually in the hundreds of millions by the time I get that far. Still, it's fun, and something nobody else has ever tried to properly simulate (as opposed to simplified strategy games like DEFCON).

Oregon Trail

a silly little game where the object is to get your covered wagon across 19th century america, without starving to death.

thought it was cool at the time, but really because it was the only computer game that our school had, and the pc thing was still relatively new (ca 1985).
