This always amuses me...I mean I am sad that people are stupid enough to die for something as silly as sighting the moon....but it is also funny in a dry way...

KHYBER AGENCY: As many as 14 people were killed and a number of others sustained injuries in an armed clash between two rival groups on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr in Khyber Agency.
According to Radio Tehran, the clash erupted between the Ansar and the Lashkar-e-Islam groups led by Mufti Munir Shakir and Pir Saifullah, respectively, over the provincial government’s announcement regarding sighting of the Shawal moon.
Both sides used modern weapons against each other. Fourteen people have been killed and a number of others sustained injuries in the clash, the report said.
The two groups had frequently clashed with each other over the past year, leading to the killing of scores of people.
The two religious leaders differ over important Sharia issues and have taken up arms against each other. Both the influential groups were recently evicted from Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency by the political administration. —Online
Javed Aziz Khan adds from Peshawar: Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated in many parts of NWFP on Tuesday. Dir Bala and some parts of Dera Ismail Khan in NWFP and Loralai in Balochistan were the places where Eid was celebrated on Tuesday. Besides Peshawar, the faithful had celebrated the religious festival in Nowhsera, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Malakand, Kohat, Bannu, Hangu and all the tribal agencies Monday, after evidences regarding the sighting of Shawwal moon were produced before the regional Ruet-e-Hilal committees Sunday evening.
A number of people criticised the local religious scholars for dividing the nation over the religious festivity by announcing Eid in parts of the province on Monday. Verdicts had been issued regarding the Monday Eid since 25th of Ramazan. A section of religious scholars even made it public by circulating it to the local press.
PPI adds: Earlier on sighting of Shawal moon on Monday evening, Amir JUI and Secretary-General Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) Maulana Fazlur Rehman had issued a decree to celebrate Eid on Tuesday. He told reporters that at least 38 genuine evidences regarding Eid moon sighting in NWFP Monday evening were conveyed to the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Islamabad.
The opposition leader regretted that in sheer violation of the unity of the federation, the central Ruet-e-Hilal body ignored evidences regarding Eid moon sighting from the NWFP. He said that a number of people in Dera Ismail Khan had themselves sighted Eid (Shawal) moon on Monday evening.
He condemned that Eid was not celebrated throughout the country on the same day in accordance with the sighting of the moon in NWFP. Fazl termed Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s decision a violation of Islamic teachings.
Following announcements of local Ruet-e-Hilal Committees Eidul Fitr was celebrated in Chaman, Killa Abdullah, Muslim Bagh, Killa Saifullah, Zhob, Loralai, Dukki, Sanjavi and their adjoining areas.
