Is what?

And no I do not count the chinzy REALITY TV shows like Survivor, Fear Factor et al.

I mean REAL game shows.

I was just watching old clips of the "$100 000 Pyramid" and its cousins on YouTube and DAMN I miss that show, it was awesome. "Card Sharks" was great too, as was Richard Dawson's "Family Feud."

NationStates, I await your verdict!

I hate gameshows...I just don't understand why people like to see others get free money.

It's not ppl get free money that the viewer wants to see.
Secretly, they really want to see someone have the chance to get free money and fail. Makes their own life feel better in someway. Especially if the person losing, does so on a question, "even I could have answered!".
Gameshows are the media's version of rubbernecking.

I kind of liked Let's Make a Deal-selling your dignity for a goat, pretty cool. And it's spawned so many metaphors and the like, it's gotta be cool.

I like "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" and "The Weakest Link" for the trivia purposes, and "The Price is Right" for the fun of guessing prices. (I'm closest to the price on the bidding to get up on stage most of the time, and when it comes to playing the games, I'm also great. If I ever get a chance to go to Los Angeles and I'm picked to go stand amongst the four to bid on an item, you can bet I'll end up winning both Showcases.)

Gameshows used to be entertaining. The only ones left are Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, unless you have Gameshow Network.

The Japanese ones where they have to do something painful/humiliating in order to win.

i liked "beat the geeks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_The_Geeks)" and "Win Ben Stein's Money (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Win_Ben_Stein's_Money#Versions_outside_the_USA)" wasnt too bad

The Crystal Maze (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Maze) was also a pretty interesting show to watch.

Fun House was pretty cool (especially because of Pat Sharp's mullet...and I don't mean fish). Takeshi's Castle is probably the best I've seen recently, and yes, the Crystal Maze was fucking excellent, if only for the ineptitude (is that even a word) of the contestants. Countdown's quite good as well, if you have nothing to do in the afternoon.

Takeshi's castle.

Followed by any other Japanese gameshow. It proves at least they understand reality shows require you to throw away all semblance of dignity.
