Inspired by the 'tache stroking thread, what's the best kind of facial hair? what's your opinion on facial hair? is it gross is it cool? do we have any Pogonophobes on here?

some descriptions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beard#Beard_styles)

i've had stubble ever since i could grow any but now i've started shaving and i've grown a 'soul patch' or 'rayale' cuz i hate my profile and i think it fills in the big dent between my bottom lip and my chin.

it depends on the face shape and attitude of the person I suppose.

I like my husband with just about any face hair he wants, other than a mustache, those are off limits, I am anti-mustache.

He did wear one for a year because of a movie, but I didn't like it.

haha, i did that for a while. not as crazy as it seems tho. when i eventually got my haircut and shaved i had three girls berating me cuz apparently they fancied me when i had hobo hair (two sisters and a cousin in fact, so maybe it's something that runs in families). having said that most of my friends hated it and lots of people laughed at me for looking like a hobo *shrugs*.

Mutton Chops are awesome on other people. :D

Personally, when I'm on break, I wear something akin to the "Short Boxed Beard" on the Wikipedia article.

When I am not, I tend to wear the "Too lazy to shave today" stubble most of the time, and I go clean-shaven from time to time.

i had a full beard once but only because i lost my shaver and i was travelling so i couldn't afford a new one and didn't want to attempt proper saving for the first time when i was consistently drunk and didn't have full capability of getting medical attention. i was 18 at the time and most people i met thought i was in my mid to late 20s, and i have a baby-face normally, ha!

It really depends on the guy. However, I will say that I don't like to date men who maintain "face fuzz," for a purely practical reason. If I ever try to kiss a guy with facial hair, it either makes me bust out laughing because it tickles, or it makes me not want to kiss them because it's scratchy and unpleasant.

I have a goatee, but I like the mutton chop style sideburns. My girlfriend hates the mutton chops, so I just wear little sideburns.
I want a mustache, but can't seem to grow one. It's fairly odd considering I'm Italian and come from a looong line of mustaches.

The verdi style looks like how I imagine myself when I'm old.

I grew a beard because I was planning a Silent Bob Halloween costume (best one I've ever done, btw) and met my now current g/f. Tried the goatee once again and my girlfriend was constantly asking me if I was pissed off. Went back to the beard and have stayed there ever since.

Hmm, I've got a fairly lengthy goatee growing (is that what it is? Just stuff growing on my chin, about 4cm long), and my current g/f is quite fond of it.
Quite worryingly, she says she wouldn't mind growing one herself, if only to stroke it whilst looking thoughtful...

and i'm told i look thuggish when i'm clean shaven. well that or clean-cut. everyone's different eh. although getting a buzz cut or shaved head makes most people look like a thug, or 'hard' depending on who's talking! i'm told i look hard, which is quite amuzing seeing as i tend to run away rather than fight. actually, thinking about it, i've squared up to every fight i've been presented with but until i'm in the situation i'm a wuss... still, i lost all but one so i'm definitely not hard, haha!

Let's see.

I've had the full beard, the moustache, the goatee, and various combinations therof. Different styles at different times in my life. And I got laid with each of them.

Now, I am clean-shaven.

Why?

Because my wife prefers it that way..... and my facial hair seems to have decided to be the first to go grey. So it can go f*ck itself. I don't need the constant reminder of my aging.

Of course, I may not continue with that reaction once my ass-hair starts doing the same thing, but on the other hand I rarely have to look at my ass hair - so it's not as much of an issue for me.

Sadly, I do not have one for two reasons. One because no matter how hard I try, I just can't get one to grow. I have a 5 o'clock shadow 10 minutes after I shave, but it won't get beyond stubble. And two, my wife has made it very plain her opinion on it.

She also makes me shave on the weekend when we're together, which I do think is unfair. Oh well.

The sadest thing is, out of all of my friends, I'm the only one who can grow a full beard and moustache, and I'm the only one who doesn't want one. I look awful with a beard. The goatee makes me look just a little bit evil (okay, more evil), so it works for me.

Not to mention, if there is one thing I hate more than shaving, it is that itchy feeling I get after a few days of not shaving.

Oh, and no, I don't pull enough, which often leads to pulling in...other senses of the words.

However, this might not be an issue for long, if things go the way I want.

Thank god for halloween.

The itchiness is the biggest bitch of it all, but if you can go a couple of weeks, it passes and then you don't have to sweat it unless you shave the whole thing off.

ugh...I can't go more than a day with that. My hair is really thick, so it itches alot, and drives me absolutly insane. The last time I let it go for more than a day past when I needed to shave, my roommate put one of those dog cones on me so I couldn't scratch.

plus, light stubble looks good on me. Heavy, however, looks like I'm lazy. I imagine that is how a beard would look.

Man, bless the bluff! The fact that I look like I'm about to take someones head off if they look at me funny keeps me out of soooo much shit. Especially since I'm actually a wuss and a pacifist, so if someone did decide to take a piece of me I'd get my clock cleaned.

I got the proper goatee on that list with a hooked mustache that frames it (like a Fu Manchu, but thicker). Sometimes it can make me look like a ventriloquest's puppet because the beard moves up and down within the mustache horns like a puppet's chin mouth thingy.

I love my magnificent goatee. I shaved that marvilous bastard once for a girlfriend and I realized that I like the beard more than I liked her, so when we broke up (okay, she broke up with me) I grew it back and vowed to never abandon it again. In the words of Al "Jazzbough" Collins, 'Love me, love my beard.'

Viva la goatee!!!

I hear that. One particularly bad/early morning, I was shaving for a meeting, and shaved off a huge chunk of my goatee. I had to shave it all off so I wouldn't look like an idiot. It was miserable.

care to explain how my facial hair would determine my sexual orientation? Or how it means I have any time on my hands? Grooming takes less time than normal shaving...I have less space to cover on my bi-weekly shaving, and only have to trim the goatee once every three weeks or so, where I use a beard/sideburn trimmer, so it takes less than five minutes.

Awww...does someone have weak facial hair whose manhood is threatened by those who can grow full thick beards? It's alright, little shaver-no one thinks you're less of a man because of your peach fuzz...and hey, maybe you'll get your big boy hair one day.
