Are we reading the same article?
All I read was about the widespread protests by immigrants in regards to discrimination. Nothing about Genocide.

I haven't been here for a few days and I didn't see it mentioned in the forum. If it was, I apologize.

Actually, I was going to have a thread about what can the French do to solve their minority racism and neglecting their youth when I came across the genocide and so I switched topics and forgot the link.

It's been mentioned, and the established consensus was that it was the actions of individual soldiers, not any higher-ranking officials. You know, like Abu Gharib.

Hang on a tic.....Wouldn't it be better if a country that had solved its "minority racism" had a thread about that subject?

You mean every man over 16 and under 40 in France flew over for a month and was given two machetes and a whet stone?

Just so you know, it was already mentioned that it was already a thread. I screwed up. I admitted it. Get over it.

As much bad publicity that Abu Gharib got, what makes the French so much better not mention it to the point that everybody in the world knows? Does it make it right for the French to do it. Also, so you know at the prison in Iraq it wasn't anything to do with Genocide. Nowhere's near 800,000 people were in the prison. Conclusion: Bad comparison.

For the Record: I thought maybe I was too blinded. Thought maybe it was an over sight, however, I tried looking for it again and to no avail. So with me not being here for a few days and if it isn't listed on page 1 thru 5 how was I to know? I wasn't. So I felt that it would make a good thread.

Not to be rude but if you don't like the thread or topic or if you don't feel like replying anything useful then by all means.....don't. Thank you.

So France has um….given asylum to Genocide suspects (who would be arrested in France anyway because the U.N can and does do that)

Or is this the ridicules claim that French troops let people running around wielding machetes go past them?

Also this is two days old how come there has been no new news:confused:

Yup, they started out with a campaign called "shock and awe" that was meant to terrorize the victims and destroy their infrastructure.

After this they sent in some troops and blew quite a few people away, but not enough troops to keep order, and eventually pulled back into their forts to let the natives duke it out.

All in all, as many as 650,000 died as a result of their invasion and anarchistic fiasco of an occupation.

Damn evil French.

"On the second day of public hearings in a probe into France's alleged complicity in the genocide, a former employee of the French cultural center in Kigali said his boss had boasted about the training France had provided."

Sounds about right. Like the hearings there WILL be about Iraq... "Who trained the 'police forces' responsible of the ethnic cleansing". Yep.

Good thing these atrocities are investigated, eventually.

No no. This one's better:
Although France denies the allegations, a French former soldier last year alleged that French troops had trained Rwandan militia responsible for the killings in the two years leading up to the genocide.

So, two years prior to any action, one army trains another.

Well shit.

I'll keep an eye out for possible future fuck ups by the Iraqi Army and then blame anything and everything on the Americans there now.

This is supposed to be about the Genocide in Rwanda and the French involvement. Nothing in the article mentions Iraq. Of course I know it doesn't really matter anything bad in this world is America's fault. Anything and Everything.

Everything except Iraq, I guess, since it was the french who did the "shock and awe" terror attacks and then turned the natives against eachother and wouldnt fix the infrastructure.

Damn evil french!

Maybe we should invade them, get rid of the King of France, give em democracy and rename the country Freedom. Aint no word for "freedom" in french, I tell you what.

How much training does it take to hit someone with a machete anyway?

OMFG!!!!

In a period prior to the genocide, training (and perhaps equipment) was possibly given by the French to people who later caused a genocide.

Teh Bastiches!!!!!!

In other news, American military advisors in the past have given arms and training to various groups that included members of the Khmer Rouge, al qaeda, the Sandinistas, etc. etc. ad nauseum.

So hey, if we're going to attach blame and causation to how people eventually used that training, let's hold Washington officially accountable for 9-11 AND the Killing Fields of Cambodia, not to mention every single violent crime ever committed by an ex-member of the US military!

Hey! I like this game! Wonder how the totals will all add up between the countries.....

"Dammit, Watembe! I sair the blunt end. Someone pick those fingers up. Jeez! This is the second time this week, why do I always get them?"

The entire West had a part to play in that massacre. The US for dragging its feet in the UN SC, France for playing the colonial power, Belgium for turning its head, all of them in the UN SC for not providing its troops with a clear mandate to put an end to it when finally deployed.
