this is your thread, come forth, tell us who you are and what you think of NSG

I on occasion get the random comment or TG from a lurker saying basically "I don't post because I always agree with you" or "I don't post often but I really don't like you"

okay, I am no longer going to be an acceptable excuse for non-posting.

Here you go......

POST!

I lurked for the first year I joined NS, but I never posted any random, incoherant stuff though.....

I didn't want to because I thought I would just look like an idiot. Back then I didn't know any political stuff of any use, NS has taught me more than my middle school did.

Although it probably taught more than I wanted it to.

Then I must be succeeding!

and as the following says:
*smacks Ruffy*

don't dis da Poe!

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;--
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
She was a child and I was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea,
But we loved with a love that was more than love--
I and my Annabel Lee--
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud by night
Chilling my Annabel Lee;
So that her high-born kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,
Went envying her and me:--
Yes! that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of a cloud, chilling
And killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we--
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in Heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee:--

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I see the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea--
In her tomb by the side of the sea.

Being creative has nothing to do with it. I have no interest in flaming you as I don't care for the trouble it would cause not to mention it would be pointless and immature. Much simpler to just put you on my ignore list. Go ask someone else to insult you.

Well here I am.. lurking away.

I mostly just come here to get some idea of how the other half lives.

Most of the people I know are what would commonly be described as fairly left wing. I feel so sheltered in my pleasant little community.. so its kinna cool to come on here and meet a slightly larger spread of human opinion.

I don't often post because there is just so much to read that I just don't have time to post as well.

So to all you right wing folk out there.. cheers for enlightening me. Its always good to get a different perspective. Can't say many of my personal opinions have changed... but my perceptions of people who hold differing opinions has at least been broadened.

Yeah, sometimes the futility of it all overcomes me too. But to be honest, I just enjoy hearing the sound of my own voice (or the sight of my own writing, whatever) and the odd response is nice too. Getting a bit of yourself out there is healthy, even though it's to people you might never meet.

but anyway, pop quiz: tell me about my NS persona, if you know anything about it. You've been here for longer than I have it looks like!

Your name is not one I recognize that much, have you ever used another name, and what were some significant events that you were apart of? One of the curses of being a lurker though, is that you are far more attuned to spammers than serious members.

Well- that, and you pat more attention to posts than whose saying them. So someone really has to strike you as memorable. Thats why I remember people like Zooke...A very hard person not to take notice of...

One of the curses of being a lurker though, is that you are far more attuned to spammers than serious members.that is sort of tragic. Yeah, basically, no. This is my oldest nation, and I use it for almost all my posts. I'm not cool enough to be a spammer and still be respectable, so I mostly stick to stuff that doesn't make me look like an ass. Which explains why nobody knows me. Although, that's not a bad thing.

Do I count as a lurker? I mean, I have been here for a good 2 years now. I've started to pick up a bit post-count wise recently I suppose, but I do tend to watch big forum-events rather than take part unless there's something I feel I specifically can contribute.

It was sort of weird because someone from here (too lazy at the moment to get the screen name) messaged me a couple of weeks ago with the "how are you?" bit, which I found odd because it's not really like I connected with anyone on a personal level enough to spark some interest in my well-being.

actually, I do occasionally miss some of the college-dorm-at-3-AM-among-a-group-of-drunken-Risk-enthusiasts-style debate and discussion, even if the topics have been hashed and rehashed millions of times. Other times my social-anxiety disorder kicks in and if I so much as think about the place I have a strong desire to go kill something.

However, as NS General was pretty much consuming my life, causing me to neglect various more important aspects of it, I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon. I may be back once I go to university (which will either be next year or the year after; I might spend a year in a foreign exchange program or something similar until I'm capable of normal, offline interaction with others again). Or I may have moved on from NS entirely, finding it boring. One never can tell.

I've never had too much trouble keeping General from taking over my life - I tend to only come on in the evenings (or when I'm avoiding work). It does sometimes cause something of a lack of sleep, though - I tend to go to bed much later after I've been on here than otherwise.

this is your thread, come forth, tell us who you are and what you think of NSG

I on occasion get the random comment or TG from a lurker saying basically "I don't post because I always agree with you" or "I don't post often but I really don't like you"

okay, I am no longer going to be an acceptable excuse for non-posting.

Here you go......

POST!

now then, how is everyone?

Does "not even bothering to look at NS General anymore 'cause it sucks" count as lurking? (In case you're wondering, I saw this on the side link to NS and clicked it to make sure the forums were working, because one of my posts was taking a while to get through.)
Yes.
"Spending a lot of time"? I have made about 5-6 posts here in the past... three months or so? Admittedly, all of them within the last few days, but still!

And I don't really care whether or not people remember me... I'm just bored as hell and too lazy to go outside and/or do something else.
Sure, sure, that's what they all say.:p
Hey, at least I made things exciting.

It was sort of weird because someone from here (too lazy at the moment to get the screen name) messaged me a couple of weeks ago with the "how are you?" bit, which I found odd because it's not really like I connected with anyone on a personal level enough to spark some interest in my well-being.

Anyway, hi.
That's because you seem to have some trouble recognizing that we're all still people, no matter our means of interaction. We still have the same feelings that we do in real life, the same bonds, attachments, consideration. We can genuinely care.
There are often topics that I could comment on and choose not to for one reason or another. But I felt I had to be overly dramatic. Not having any radical beliefs mean I have to be known for SOMETHING. I suppose it will have to be the silly declaration of being a wraith. :)
No, you're best known for arbitrary spamming in..Spam. And not having a strong belief.

I've been e-friends with the same people since I was 13 (now 18). Trust me, I recognize that those online are still people. The thing is, even offline, the extent to which one does care about someone they don't know on an intimate level is pretty small. Even "how are you?"s at the checkout line are expected to be met with a "fine, you?"--if you delve into personal problems that may be plaguing your life, they will be visibly annoyed.

Yes, but sometimes you'll never get a more intimate relationship like that with someone if you don't chance a little bit of forward information. And it's not like we tell each other everything here. We just try to have a good time and stuff. Stuff meaning things that friends do. Even vague acquaintances. And it isn't necessarily for everyone, either. I tend to respectfully pass by threads about the plights of those I don't really know. But sometimes I'll make a friendly remark in them. Doesn't matter if you know someone or not. It's the little things that matter most. Things beyond those silly default small-talk conversations.

I'm inclined to disagree with you--the few times I've come here, I've noticed most people were oversensitive and held grudges for a ridiculously long amount of time without ever receiving additional fuel for it, which gave off the impression that most users here are 12-14 and are simply not emotionally mature enough to harbor genuine concern for people who haven't given them IRL candy treats or something.

Of course, their e-relationships could very well be built around fluffy sentimenets and the :fluffle: icon, which I suspect, but that's pretty damn shallow and doesn't count for much.

Well, to be fair, some of us are 12-14. But even those don't necessarily act like it. Some of us are. Some of us aren't. And some of us just have trouble letting things go. That's how life is. No, this isn't supposed to make sense. But it'll probably make more sense as soon as i'm awake enough to think about it....At any rate, there's genuine concern, especially among those smaller, less communal relationships that crop up. It's more than the :fluffle: smiley. We also use the hugging smiley in MSN.:p Of course there isn't much need to, having transferred the fluffle....But the point is....well, assuming I ever had a point in mind, either you are reading too much into the simple, childish silliness to which most of us prescribe, or you're just missing the genuine attachments we form.

Moi Small?
Certainly not.
Modest yes, but of the highest quality for what i do.
Which is pretty fine.http://209.85.12.227/html/emoticons/sleep.gif
Your highest quality, perhaps. But really that's just kinda average.

I'll settle for just a couple hundred thousand. But you're going for a few hundred thousand, eh? Good luck and happy hunting.:p

Oh, and if you want people to remember you, maybe you should make a thread about leaving NSG forever, then come back in a week just to check out how much people are talking about you.:D:p

Hello. I am in the shadows of your thoughts. They keep the sun out of my eyes. Which's just as well, because being blinded by sunlight really sucks.
