There's a central European government. There are rules all of its members must follow. But they are granted significant autonomy regarding internal affairs, much like US states.

Really, the EU is as much a nation now as the USA was 200 years ago.

How is it not true? The EU is a supranational org, meaning the nations are bound together under a larger central european gov't. Thats what a lot of nationalists hate the EU, because there is national powers taken away from the individual member states, and given to the EU parliament, EC and so on.

I knew where France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, UK, Finland, Italy, Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Sweden, Ireland, and Ukrain all were so they were easy, but the others I wasn't so sure about... =/
