Maybe I need a break?

In the past few weeks, I've injured myself a few times- instances where if I were paying better attention, it wouldnt have happened.

Three weeks ago, I broke a bone in my right hand when a piece of lumber slid down the ladder I was climbing and landed squarely on the back of my hand.
Then last week, I was loading a large log onto a wood splitter and mashed a finger on the other hand between the log and the stop.

I dont know if I'm preoccupied and not paying attention, or if my reflexes are slowing down, or what.

Anyone notice themselves slipping? Or could this just be some bad luck?

It's probably just you. :p I myself am always in tip-top shape, with the reflexes of a cat.

Could be you're just pre-occupied. Anything besides bodily harm going on in your life? I know when I'm distracted it's best that I don't use the good knives, I can't tell you how often I've sliced myself and not the onion. Hang in there, this, too, shall pass.

I do after a few months of the school year ... working 70+ hours a week on top of going for your doctorate gets to you

I've always had great reflexes too. I guess I'll wonder if I could have avoided both, or if there was no reasonable way.

Nothing really going on worth noting, besides the standard wife and three kids issues. Life is hectic, but good.

My only complaint is two aching stiff hands, waiting for them to heal fully.

anyway, as for the OP, yeah.... maybe you're just dog-tired? i know when i get really tired i make all kinds of mistakes and do stuff like stub my toe and cut myself in ways i can't even recall at the time (i work at a computer all day so scope for serious injuries is limited :p)
i also find when i'm tired my body has an increased aptitude to get hurt, too...

I suspect it's just one of those "things." There are times when every time we turn around, we knock something over or break something or have pieces of wood fall on us. And ther's a silver lining here, too, you know: "Honey, I'd better hold off on those house projects until I get past this clumsy phase I'm going through. Maybe in the Spring ...?"

Accidents happen. I wouldn't read too much into this. Are you sleeping well? Sleep deprivation can make you a little more prone to accidents.

I'm trying not to make more of it than it is.

Actually, I havent been sleeping so well for the past few months. I wake up everytime I turn over.

A vacation is in order. Somewhere warm.

Well, I just got back from Florida and it was a little too warm. I was sweating like a pig, but the theme parks are nice and the kids might enjoy Gatorland in Orlando.

I found February to be good time to hit Orlando- the wife and I are seeing if we can do it this coming Feb. I know the kids would love it. I always like it too-I'm happy in shorts and a t-shirt,especially when they are having the time of their lives.

You probably have a tumor on your ocipital lobe. Go see an oncologist. You'll need to have it removed quickly to save at least some of your motor skills.

Ok, first off, you're in PA, surrounded by trees, in the most beautiful season. What are you doing on a ladder working?!

Secondly, no pain here, but it's been a crappy few weeks.

My reflexes are still that of a retarded cat, but my Wolverine healing powers are down. I did something or other to my thumb a month or so ago and it still hurts to bend it certain ways.

I've been helping other people-thats the problem. On one, we are trying to close up a new house before winter. I started climbing up my ladder that someone had balanced the end of a treated 2 X 10 on-they were holding their end and my end slid down the ladder like a guillotine and hit the back of my hand as it gripped the ladder. There was an audible crack and it hurt like hell. That was around noon and we worked til 7pm.

The second break was helping someone else get all their logs off the ground, split and stacked before winter.

But-you are right- it is absolutely beautiful here. And with the trees losing their leaves, the view of the lake is awesome.

Sorry to hear you arent having a good time-nothing serious, I hope?

Think its has to do with age?

I used to heal really fast and I see that has slowed a bit as well.

Nothing really, just annoyed at.. everything.

And I have a sinus infection, but the weird thing is.. if I eat chinese food, I feel 100% better for a few hours.

It'll all pass. Can't wait till november!

I like my neighbors-especially since the nearest is over 100 yards away.

You must eat it with the hot mustard- that loosens and drains your sinuses.

I used to like a shot of Absolut with a few splashes of Tabasco in it- take the shot and hold it in your mouth for a few seconds.
probably better than Zicam.

I use tequila and tabasco. It's an actual shot called a prarie fire. http://www.webtender.com/db/drink/3092

Man-I know that would work. Even without the Tabasco.

the probleme with hemoroid and tabasco can only be solve with eating bread(white) of coconuts, and potatoes,,
you need an ointment, and a break,
And yes it always works .

Thanks. ;)

I dont know how soft I am-in these cases, I'm helping someone that I know can help me down the road somewhere, if I need it.

Yeah- I'm lucky here-the past few weeks, the leaves changing have been beautiful. ANd I have a large picture window looking out over the back property. No other houses or roads in sight, just trees and a lake. Half the time I look out there, there are deer in the backyard. Very often wild turkeys too.
A week or so ago, I saw a coyote early in the morning.

I'm starting to love it here, but I'll always miss the ocean.

I'd love to, but I have yet to get my own firewood-I have to get to it soon-its already cold here.

And I dont have log-splitting machine.

I am the log splitter. With two hands that feel like I have arthritis.

Just to put things in perspective- I whine a little in here, but I just spent my lunch break digging up the caps on my septic tank.

I'm having it pumped out next week and save $30.00 if the driver doesnt have to uncover the plugs.

Even though I'm bitching a little, the jobs are still getting done.

And-if the frigid wind dies down in the next day, the gutters need to be cleaned. I'm not looking foward to that much.

Well, since someone else has already suggested brain cancer (*devotes several seconds to hating PyschoticDan*), I've had to come up with a different diagnosis in the name of being a contrary asshole.
So, by consulting the very latest in 19th century medical science, I have determined that you are pregnant. Most likely, this was caused by not going to church enough, and the best cure I can suggest is by consuming an opiate of some sort while wearing a monocole and top hat.

Then I suggest using a hacksaw, rather than an axe. That will result in less injury, probably.

I think the day-in,day-out routine starts to dull your senses and make you weak.
