It looks like making a fool of yourself in front of the UN doesn't help your causes. I think his 15 minutes are up.

I would've said the fact that Venezuelan oil production appears to be in a free fall is even more convincing. Down 10% compared to 2005, and down 5% compared to 2004...it's sinking like a lead balloon. I guess that's what happens when you let ideology block out reality.

If Guatemala doesn't wind up on the Security Council, Chavez gets a win, no matter how the US tries to spin it. A small SA country would have again successfully tweaked the nose of the country that likes to call itself (improperly, in my view) the world's sole superpower.

And the near-collapse of the Bolivian natural gas industry seems to be making Chavez's case look weaker as well.

Not to mention the fact that nobody believes OPEC will commit to cuts...Venezuela's looking not only at less production, but also less money for each barrel it exports. It's hard to buy Russian oil to meet your quota if the money to buy it is shrinking faster and faster.

Or when the leaders of the oil industry and the establishment labor unions decide to overthrow your government at the behest of foreign powers.

Always a question, in cases like this; is it the elites working for the foreign powers, or the foreign powers just backing an already-existing movement? Something of a chicken-or-the-egg question...

Does it matter?

They are playing the same game for basically the same reasons.

Hear about the Alaskans that won't take the free oil from Hugo Chavez? One question: Why isn't the US supplying its own people?
