Oh cripes...childish harrassment from elementary school carries over to middle school and matures. That's the best way to describe the worst years of my life in middle school (not in an emo way though: everything went SO uphill after I went to a different high school than my graduating class).
It's funny, because I had a dream last night which I am pretty much just waking up from that involved me being back in middle school...and doing things different. Kinda "Peggy Sue Got Married".

Middle School was the awful, besides having backstabbing friends, irritating bullies, corrupt school administrators (one of them has gone to jail), a terrifyingly fat principal and horrid food,

The only upside to middle school was that my teachers were alright in Social Studies, English and Science. 6 & 7th grade math, on the other hand, ruined me. I've never been the same with math since then.

Of course, I didn't do anything to help myself in there. Middle school is part of the reason why so much of my fandom is totally destroyed.

Yeah, because it's not rough at all if you're interested in the same sex...

Not that I'm gay or anything, it's just that I heard the phrase "that's gay" and that colorful litte word that people like to call gays. :)

i was a huge nerd and loved it.

my teachers were really cool, everyone didnt like the science teacher but i thought he was awsome he really got me interested in science. Everyone loved the english teacher but she always seemed to be a bit of a bitch towards me so i hated her. is probably why i dont like english so much now.

at the time of middle shool i went to a small school so i knew everyone in my class and we all hung out as a group during and after school.

Just people who could talk, but do no damage. Once you understand that, then Middle School (no, everything) is seen in a better light.

In fifth grade I wa bullied by the other girls because I was at the top of the class, or at least up there with my now best friends (who were boys). Fifth grade got better. Sixth grade I went off Concerta and my grades suffered- not only that, but a lot of people jsut flat-out ignored me and I was picked on constantly for acne (and before eighth grade started I had a stain on m tooth from when I got sick as a little kid, I was picked on because of that too and I took very good care of my teeth-eventually the dentist just put some stuff over it). Sevneth grade came and I tried out for the sports teams- didn't make them because of favoritism. Eighth grade was the best of the middle school years, though it still sucked because of the social anxiety and lack of motivation and my grades... but when I trie dout for the volleyball team, my sister (then a 7th grader) made it though I didn't because the @$#@$@#$er picked favorites. I didn't bother trying out for any other soprts teams, I knew I wasn't going to make it, and my social life went downhill, and I got out of middle school with B's and C's.

The teachers at my middle school picked favorites- the counselor even had her pets in the SAVE club and the peer mediators! I spent most of sixth grade in silent lunch, and constantly bossed around by the rednecks around here simply because I was shy and didn't get along well with people.

Several times I contemplated transferring schools, because it sucked so bad. I considered getting certain teachers (like the evil coaches) fired, but never got around to it.

The only upside was my friends and band, and that's IT. :(

Oh geeze...I had the same problem, when I was in grades K-4 I was that wierd kid, who no1 talked too. Then in fourth grade I met a friend who wpould "show me the light" as we call it now. Me and him became pretty good friends, and he was popular. Now this gave me the opprotunity to meet more popular people.

In 6th grade, I was one of the most popular kids in the entire school. 6th grade believe it or not was horrible, I sat with these two kids, who although were my friends, made fun of everybody, and didnt mean anything by it. So I sat with them, and every single day, I got made fun of, for such stupid things, they told every1 about what they were making fun of me for, and it became constant, in school and on the bus. My self-esteem dropped like a rock, i started feeling bad about myself, I play basketball, and I started doing worse at that, surprisingly, my grades never suffered. but my social life as you said...started going downhill.

Now in 7th grade (middle school) I know what to say, and what not to say, and the making fun has stopped, and im making even more friends, and having a good time:D .

Middle school sucked for me not neccessarily because of bullying or girls or whatever but more because I found that the teachers at my school were ridiculously incompetent, overpaid, and generally too concerned with an agenda to teach us. Oh yeah, and I broke a lot of rules. Two suspensions. Missed my 8th grade dance because of it.

Academically, it was great. I had a really excellent teacher for all three years (science in the first two, history in the third), and middle school prepared me well for high school. I became co-historian of the National Junior Honor Society, was working on the school newspaper staff, went to the State History Fair, received 3rd place in a speech contest, attended a luncheon about nanotechnology and received a free signed copy of a book about it (the author was cool, I got to sit next to him at the luncheon, and I even was in the newspaper about the luncheon.) Middle school really helped me develop into who I am now.

Socially, however, it was a mixed experience. I had to deal with a lot of ridicule, particularly about my skin, since people seemed to think it was too pale (and still do), among other things. But I also made new friends, and that's good.

So, overall, I enjoyed my middle school experience.

The end of primary school and the beginning of secondary school (cause i changed schools in year 9, aged 14) was absolute hell for me. My primary school was minute and all the other girls were greek and so at playtime they would all sit together and talk to each other in greek and leave me out. This meant i spent about 2 years with no-one talking to me.
Then i went to secondary school, and thought 'Yay, a second chance'. Well, have you ever tried going to a state school with a really posh accent? Picked on from the first day i set foot in the school and carried on for all two and a half years i was there. The first guy i asked out in year 8 called me a zombie, (polite eh?), this gang of girls would come up to me every lunch time and call me an alien, i was picked on by my friends sometimes because i developed much earlier than them, and i was much much fatter (bear in mind i wasnt actually fat, just fatter than my anorexic friend). Then i got braces, and wasnt that just so fun? Oh, and spots and greasy hair turned up at roughly the same time so you can guess what that was like. Then somehow everyone decided that they didnt like me, and i ended up haveing only one friend for about 4 months, then that friend said i was too clingy and so we broke friends, so i had none. All this time i couldnt work out what i was doing that made everyone not like me either. Thank god i changed schools then (at which point i became fairly popular and got down to a size 10, funny isnt it?)
So yeh, that was what my school was like till 14.

So... basically random grades in secondary school? How strange.

Those years were hell for me, not because of school, but because my father decided to have an active part in my upbringing. Which basically included daily verbal abuse and regular beatings combined with very strict regulations as to what I could read or watch on TV. Not something you should EVER do to a shy, insecure pubescent girl....
School was ok, we had some fantastic teachers and some mediocre ones. I had to start Latin in year 7, and went on hating it until I could finally get rid of it in year 12.

Middle school hadn't been invented when I was of an age for it. We went Elementary up through 6th grade, 7th through 9th in Junior High, then 10th, 11th, 12th in High School. Junior High was okay. Actually, 9th grade was a blast because we were the top predators in the food chain. The 7th and 8th graders got 30 minute lunch periods but 9th graders, because of the way our class schedules worked out, got a full hour. I have very fond memories of playing hide-and-seek in the auditorium and music rooms with my friends. :D

Wait, middle school is in between junior and senior high, right? So that should make it..grade 9 and 10? Ok, well I went to two different schools in those years (I went to 10 all together, woot). The first one was a cheap shitty poor public school in a country town in NSW called Wagga Wagga. It was awesome. Lots of fun, great people. The second school was a cheap shitty rich public school in Sydney, it had a shocking reputation for drugs and gangs, plus over 80% ethnic students. It was awesome. Lots of fun, great people.

They had junior high in urban areas which included 7th and 8th grades instead of middle school here when I attended. So in 7th grade I attended a school with more than 1500 7th and 8th graders. This was run almost exactly like most of the high schools I attended as far as classes and scheduling went. I also was placed in a special experimental program which required more work which was more difficult but also included many interesting field trips and experiences which broadened our views and horizons I'd say.

Then in 8th grade my family moved to a very rural area which had 16 8th graders and possibly twenty 7th graders. All of our classes were held in one large room which had stout plastic curtains seperating it into 4 classrooms or opened to show films to all at once.

I would say I learned more about the curriculum in 8th grade and more about life and socialising in the 7th grade.

It sucked. I didn't have any friends for the first year, and for the other two years, my friendships were weak, and generally not long-lasting. I was smart, but some of my teachers despised me, and marked me accordingly. I was a nerd. I hated the way I looked. I didn't fit in. I was exceptionally small. Etc, etc.

Basically the only things I can look back on happily were my choir trip to Edmonton, and my first musical, Fiddler on the Roof, Junior, and even those weren't that great.

The classes were engaging. The school environment was friendly and non-threatening. With one exception, the teachers were not on mad power trips (I still think I would kill my grade 8 librarian given half the chance, evil bastard).

Middle school was undoubtedly the best experience of my (so far) short life. I treasured each of the grades, and 7th was by far my favorite grade sofar. I had amazing friends and did awesome stuff. While I found the actual school work boring and tedious, we still made stuff extremely fun and a few great teacheres thrown in added to the experience. It was the perfect balance between emerging maturity and responsibility.

It really makes me love my life. I grew up without much material wealth and with a father that abused the hell out of me. I was however, for all intents and purposes, pretty happy. I was playing 4 sports, getting straight A's with some pretty wicked teachers, and copntent. The teachers and administration loved me because I just tended to do the right thing no matter what. I was raised to respect everyone and it paid off. I had fun all through middle school and never really cared about what all the "mean people" would say. I was popular, had a wicked hot girlfriend who would enjoy rather exciting fingerbanging sessions in her parents' basement. I was rather surprised she started dating me because I was a year younger and every single guy in the school wanted to bag her. Life is what you make of it at any age and I sure as hell loved my time as a kid. I remind you, abusive father, cousin offing himself, another killed by drunk driver, best friend died of cancer, and sure as shit I managed to remain happy. People who expect everything to go there way are destined to be miserable for all their lives. Look at life with realistic expectations and you'll never be left wanting. Today I have a beautiful wife, new suv, nice house in a great section of town, great dog, and many more happy things.:D :p

I vaguely remember a somewhat unpleasant experience somewhere in the distant past. There were bullies and a few girls and awkward growth spurts and such. I recall that I survived it somehow.

Oh, and we didn't call grades 7-9 middle school in those ancient days. It was "Junior High".

Ahh the lovely Junior High. I remember that. I was a geek, with glasses, and a "bowl" hair cut. Was afraid to talk to girls, and even more afraid to change in the locker room, but the worst fear was having a certain body part rise to the occasion in the middle of class. -shakes head- Boy i loved my Junior high experience:rolleyes:

I was pretty high, so I don't remember much, I remember a few random things, like the first day of school and not remembering how the bells worked so I was late to all my classes, I remember my history teacher watching the O.J. trial instead of teaching......I remember a conversation with one of my teachers about what a "nickle sack" meant and then selling them a quarter after class.....

I never remember which teacher that was though.

I rather admire your wit and humor. I rarely reply to you as we usually agree. I think the OJ trial was one of those things everyone HAD to see. MY Health teacher in HS was watchting it as well, but we enjoyed it too.

Just to say there are some middle schools in the UK, just not all that many.

I moved from a primary/secondary system to the lower/middle/upper system at the start of the 7th year, the problem was in middle school they start learning a language two years earlier, oh how i despised french. Didn't stop me from getting one of the best marks in the class, but oh i despised it.

Well technically i spent the first few weeks of when school should have started at home since we were still buying the house, we were renting one at the time and it wasnt in a catchment area. Then i got shoved into one with a very bad reputation. There were a lot of decent people and teachers there though. Good memories too. On my second of third day there the "toughest person in the year" decided to try and steal something for me, i didn't let him and apparently scared him senseless over the next few times we bumped into eachother and on what was coincidentally my last day there he apologised and wanted to be friends.

Then after that we got out house, were in a catchment area for a differant school and i switched to there instead. I've got to say, it had some of the best teachers, maths one was great and so were the science ones. one even set fire to the floor, it was hilarious. The people on the other hand were the worst, constantly insulting and violent. I was a fair bit more intelligent and mature than most other people, made me mostly a loner which didn't help. The work wasn't exactly challenging though, hell i got quite ill and missed about 3 months, still did fine in my exams.

Bit of a mixed bag. not sure if it was good or bad, differant aspets of it.

Depends, which middle school experiance do you mean?

I was on the cusp of the change over so my junior high went to middle school at the end of my 8th grade year, meaning that I only had to endure two years of that hellish place.

It wasn't a fun time, I was small and fat (as opposed to being large and fat now), and into odd things such as Star Trek, fantasy, and other geeky things. Needless to say I got picked on quite a bit and almost ended dropping out of school altogether thanks to a very screwed up first relationship.

But I also made some good friends who lasted through high school and a wee bit beyond, hit a major growth spurt so the start of high school I was taller than about 90% of the rest of the students, and had a good teacher who not only whipped me into shape, but inspired me to become a teacher myself.

My current junior high school experiance is a LOT better, but then again, I am now the teacher. :D

Middle school was okay for the most part. In 7th grade I switched to a public school from a private christian school. For the first few months I didn't have any friends, I just sat by people that recognized me so it was always awkward because they were always wondering why the hell I was hanging out with them. After a while I made a few friends and it got better. As for how the classes were my history and math class was fun but all the others sucked because either the teachers were boring or incompetent.

In 8th grade my best friend basically told me to stay the hell away from him because everyone was thinking I was his best friend. For a few months I didn't have any friends again so I just hanged out in the library. Eventually I started talking to some people I knew a little the year before and became good friends and I was really close with them and it lasted all throughout high school. Too bad I don't see them anymore because I don't go to the same college as them so now I have no friends again.

Mine sucked. I got reminded of it several times in the last week and would gladly forget all but a few parts of it. How about you guys?

mine was great, had periods of not fitting in(the who quadrophenia)comes to mind..but basically it was pretty cool, taught me about life.

i imagine everyone went thru awkward stages, insecurity, self concsious bouts, pimples at the wrong time..lol
but aint that life?

i was lucky,i was friends with the druggies,the punks,the jocks,cheerleaders,the teachers..etc.
school taught me to move within the groups, and as an added benefit..when i felt outcast with one group,i felt at home with another.

should have been a diplomat(cept when i drink..lol)then i get a bit...me

my point i guess is that as horrible as it can be,one can learn alot about how to navigate thru life, and the assholes it throws your way.

i organized a football game with the "druggies" verse the "jocks" who hated eachother...after the game,we were all chillen and having fun together...not at parties with girls...somethings never change, but it had the 2 groups of very dissimilar people..laughing and lounging at the time..that changed things.for everyone.

as much as i hated going to school,it taught me that we are not so far apart, everyone has the same fears and insecurities..everyone just deals with it different..jocks do their thing,etc...but they are not that far apart from the druggie..they just deal with it another way.

that is discounting the sociopaths.

edit

and even there school taught me...1 of my best friends is a pagan(mc club)and i just hung out with another friend(warlock mc club)last weekend, and they usually hate on eachother...but since i was there..out of mutual respect, they put there stupid petty shit aside and found out..gee whiz..we are the same...then i go back to work with my partner(who is half my age)and into the gangsta stuff(but really a decent insecure kid)then had a meeting with my boss who is alot smarter then me...and he wears a suit, and is rich..but agrees we are all the same..just that we hide our fears differently.

school should teach you that.

^ ?!?

As a whole, Middle School wasn't that bad -- this probably had something to do with most of my education being Montessori-based, and therefore, class size was dramatically smaller.

Also, less retards.
