ever so slightly chilled I don’t like the cold:(

It depends from beer to beer, for example, I like a good Hefeweizen just barely chilled, but a Koelsch is best nearly frozen.

To be fair, it does depend on the beer. Hoegaarden's Witbier I'll accept at room temperature, but something darker like a dunkelweizen I'd want slightly chilled.

Very very cold.

Terrible poll - you treat all beers as the same. You'd best not serve me a stout at the same temp as you serve me a lager.

But by identifying a temperature you tell us what sort of beer you prefer.

I do insist that if it tastes better ice cold it barely warrants being called beer.

It, very obviously, depends on the beer. I would never have an ale ice-cold for example, but American-style lagers necessitate it.

But what if I like ales and lagers together, depending upon the situation? Like tonight, I had a cold Stella in the room, had a cold Tetley's in the bar, then finished off with a room temperature Black Sheep. I feel like I've been un-pigeon-holed with this poll :(

The worst pint I ever had was Tetleys, but that was due to watering-down at a pub I've never since revisited, and is really nothing to do with temperature, so I might just stop talking about it, now.

If I had to pick one temperature range for all beer, I'd go for, "gently chilled". I don't care how cold you make a Fosters, Carling, [long list of American lagers], or such, I'm not going to enjoy it (until at least the fifth or sixth one). I tend to give my ales a few minutes in the fridge (essentially, drink the first one as it comes, slowly as I can manage, while the rest spend that short period of time cooling in my crappy, crappy mini-fridge).

Largely, I agree with most of the previous posters in reference to quality and type of beer. Mh.

if we're talking actual beer then just below room temp for most of them. lager's got to be about 4 or 5 degrees C.

Yeah, but what sort is it? Molson or Sleemans or something? That was the worst thing about Canada, for me. Had to search out a British-themed place for decent beer (and radically improved service every time I opened my British mouth =) )... though, as it happened, I did discover that Canada was getting better Boddingtons than we were. Not sure if that's still the case, but the export stuff kicked arse.

...or maybe it just seemed that way after a week or two of surviving off Molson and Sleemans.

Eh, sorry, I'm, you know, borderline drunk =)

I enjoy my beer (and by beer I mean lager) the same way I enjoy my women: frigid. frosty. tasty. I need another beer.

I have some friends who discovered the best temperature for beer (american domestics, pilsners, etc.) is BATTOMI.

Beer At The Temperature Of Melting Ice

This means beer served (and constantly kept) in a slurry of ice and water. And oh do they go down easy. Check out battomi . com for the whole story!

Different beers are meant to b served at different temperatures. A nice English stout I'd serve cold, an ale slightly warm (circa 10C), a Czech lager ice cold, American pils-water... I'd pour down the drain as unfit for human consumption. :D

Only horribly cheap beer should be ice cold. And it better be a really hot day.

Of course, room temperature or (god forbid) warm is rarely acceptable for me.

as some one who lives in a equatorial region i have to say ice cold for all beers, i've never tasted a beer thats good at room temp. though i'll cede some beers don't need to be as cold as others.

It depends on the beer. I prefer ales to only be slightly chilled, but many lagers have to be ice cold. I don't mind a room temperature ale, but most lagers don't seem right of you drink them like that. It is like asking what temperature you prefer wine to be served at, different types are supposed to served at different temperature.

How do you like your beer?

First of all you should get real beer (in case you live outside of Germany that would mean importing beer from Germany). Then you can think about the right temperature... :D

PS: I used to work with/for Anheuser-Busch and I don't consider the stuff they make to be beer.
