People of Chicago!

People of Chicago, for some damn reason, you keep on voting in the dumbass and idiot known as Mayor Daley. The same Daley who destoryed Meigs Field in April of 2003 under the geis of "homeland security". Well, now, I think it's time to kick his fat ass out of office! It's time to put an end to the Daley's political machine, by voting for someone else! To help you with this "hard" decision, I have a list of candidates that yall can actually consider, from the help of "Friends of Meigs"

9/27/06: Meigs becomes topic in mayoral race

With the mayoral race getting under way, Meigs Field is taking a prominent role with these candidates:

With the announcement of fines last week for the City of Chicago, the Meigs story keeps developing.

In some ways, it is a testament to the arrogance involved in the Meigs destruction that the issue is still alive, nearly 4 years after the demolition. Recall that Mayor Daley destroyed Meigs just a few weeks after he had been re-elected, during the run-up to the Iraq war. The timing was specially chosen to give Mr. Daley both an excuse (terrorism, ya know?) and plenty of time for voters to forget about it before the next election cycle.

Well, surprise! People (voters, candidates, the media, etc.) haven't forgotten.

First, it was Bill "Dock" Walls, the first candidate into the race, who proclaimed on TV "My first act as Mayor will be to re-open Meigs Field. That was the night that democracy died in Chicago."

Last week, Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown--who announced her candidacy for mayor a few weeks back--criticized the Mayor's actions on Meigs, saying that--because of fines levied by the FAA-- “The City of Chicago is out of another one million dollars and the taxpayers are once again holding the bag”.

And now, the favorite challenger, according to polls--Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.--is citing Meigs in his public comments prior to a decision whether to run for mayor after the fall elections in November. In yesterday's Chicago Sun-Times, Jackson is quoted as saying that his decision whether to run will be based, in part, on whether he can convince voters “that corruption costs — that they’re paying for [the destruction of] Meigs Field, [emphasis added] that they’re paying to fight federal laws like Shakman, that they’re paying Jon Burge’s pension, that they are paying to investigate Jon Burge.”

Meigs supporters will recall that Rep. Jackson has already endorsed the "Parks and Planes" proposal of the Friends of Meigs Field, to reopen Meigs as a combination park/airport/air museum.

Do you even live in Chicago, or are you just trying to tell people who should represent them? I know you have an irrational hatred of anything left of center, but would you cut the crap? You cannot tell people how to vote. Apparently, a large enough number of people consider him to be a good enough mayor.

Is it any different than the dead people who ended up voting for George W. Bush? All I'm saying is that it is poor taste for Wilgrove to tell people from a city he doesn't probably even live in how to vote in the election. Provide people with the evidence, and let them make up their own damn minds.

In the middle of the night he bulldozes the field (without notifying any proper avenues) to "Avoid more court battles". What. the. hell? You dont want any serious debate on it, so you make it worthless to your opponents? What arrogance! I hope you guys vote him out.

Anyone who lives near Chicago. The problem with Daley is that he has been building his influence his entire career. He runs the city, he runs the democratic machine in Chicago(an organization like no other in the nation), the county board answers to him, and his boy is currently sitting in the Governor's office. He shut down a local airport, in violation of a court order, so that he could twist the FAA's arm into letting him expand O'Hare airport. His plan for expansion involves annexing and then seizing privately owned land in another city, and digging up a cemetary.

The man has gone off the rez in a big way. Chicago has more than just general political corruption, we're talking about a town where the politicians and the mob have been intermarrying for two generations.

A large majority of Illinois is Republican. The only reason its known as a Dem state is because Chicago, and Metro East(E. st louis, alton, o fallon etc) are dem, and they have a large urban population.

Daley deserves any hate directed towards him. His only redeeming quality is that he's a Southsider and White Sox fan.

Daley is a dictator. He is always wrapped in scandal. He always throws his aids under the bus to avoid getting caught. See hired truck scandal or the huge budget increases to CTA (still don't know where that money's going).

The asshole is sabotaging a 3rd airport in Peotone, Gary, or Harvey because he wants to expand O'Hare for tax revenues. One problem, the FAA has refused to clear more traffic to O'Hare even if they expand it. The airtraffic in the area is too crowded as is. There are near misses on the runways almost every other week. Daley doesn't give a damn about the safety of air travelers at O'Hare. The fucker just wants money for his pockets.

Daley is even more corrupt than his father. If you want to read about his corruption, I recommend "Boss" by former Tribune columnist Mike Royko.

Who cares, Quinn will be the gov in a year when Blago gets hauled off by the FBI. Quinn (the Democrat LT. Governor) is the most honest of the 3. My cousin works for him too. I've got no problem with Wilgrove launching into a tirade about Daley. Daley is as bad as bad gets when it comes to shady political crap. Wil's tone is even appropriate -- I remember feeling similarly peeved when the press kept lobbing softballs to GWBush in both of his election cycles. It was as if they were suddenly overcome with compassion for someone who wasn't terribly bright instead of asking him real questions and demanding legitimate answers. I kept screaming "for God's sake, he's a complete tool! Ask him something in public you'd ask of a presidential candidate, not a kid running for student body president!" So rant on, Willy.

My beef comes when someone's trying to make a point, no matter how exasperated they are, and they can't bother to spell-check it. Call it nit-picking, but it makes your post look moronic when you attempt to use mid-level vocabulary and then step on your dick trying to spell it. If it isn't that, it's superfluous words (masquerading as cleverness), incorrect prepositions, and huge run-ons (such as the closing paragraph).

I realize that Willy was probably in the heat of righteous indignation and was considering his point rather than his delivery. That's common for anyone who doesn't proof their rant before clicking "send". Hell, for some folks, it doesn't matter -- they wish to be heard and fuck all those who'd decry the undotted Is and uncrossed Ts. That's fine -- but realize that it softens your message and encourages some who read it to dismiss it.

Now, what's all this about again?

A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Sox fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they were Sox fans too. Not really knowing what a Sox fan was but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like fleshy fireworks.

There is, however, one exception. One girl has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different. "Because I'm not a Sox fan."

Then, asks the teacher, what are you?

"Why I'm proud to be a Chicago Cubs fan," boasts the little girl.

The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks the girl why she is a Cubs fan.

"Well, my Dad and Mom are Cubs fans, and I'm a Cubs fan too."

The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason," she says loudly. "What if your Mom was a moron, and your dad was an idiot. What would you be then?"

A pause, and a smile. "Then," says the girl, "I'd be a Sox fan."

I have lived in Chicago my enitre life. In fact, until the past month I had never lived more than two miles from Wrigley. I say this because I want you to understand the full gravity of what is to follow. I hate the Cubs. I hate them with every fiber of my being. I hate their colors. I hate their players. I hate their cute little mascot. I hate them more than any southsider could imagine. I hate them more than the most devout of Sox fans.

Why? Because of their fans.

The vapid, drunken, useless, slow, semi-sentient lumps of flesh that drag themselves from whatever nasty little circle of hell they nomrally reside in to gawk at grown men playing with balls and drink over-priced swill from giant paper cups. I hate having to carefully consider routes and time of day when I leave the house during baseball season because every north shore stooge with the cash to drop on scalped tickets decides that it would be a good idea to drive to the game in their SUV. Even though theres no parking. I hate having to step over puke and passed out animals if I happen to need to walk anywhere within a mile and a half of the place. I hate having to explain to some stumbling wad of human debris that no, this space is on private property and is reserved for the goddamn owner and you can't park there just because you've missed the first two innings looking for parking and even though you're driving a jag and can afford to plop down 150 bucks for a bleacher seat you can't pay 30 bucks for a space.

Ok....rant over. Sorry folks.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What I've been saying for the past decade. Idiot Cub fans don't even care that the Tribune Co (owner of the Flubs) buys its own tickets and then scalps them.

I am not from chicago...but I remember this story. I have a serious problem with this guy for one reason, involving this feild-but so much larger. In the middle of the night he bulldozes the field (without notifying any proper avenues) to "Avoid more court battles". What. the. hell? You dont want any serious debate on it, so you make it worthless to your opponents? What arrogance! I hope you guys vote him out.

I am never ever voting for any republican ever. You will find most of chicago doesn't love him at all but refuses to vote for republican canidates. And while I dont like dailey I will NEVER VOTE FOR A REPUBLICAN

I hate having to carefully consider routes and time of day when I leave the house during baseball season because every north shore stooge with the cash to drop on scalped tickets decides that it would be a good idea to drive to the game in their SUV. in il it's not really that hard to pull off. the il repub party is so fucked that they can't even put up a credible fight against a gov with a 38% approval rating. and they thought it would be a brilliant idea to fly in a known nut-job from maryland to run for senate. just fucking pathetic.

How exactly was I defending the Sox? You've taken this whole north side/south side rivalry too far, bro. The only real difference between the two fan groups is income level. Still, I have no real emnity for Sox fans because I've never had to stomp on the brakes to avoid one of their drunken asses. If I lived in Bridgeport I'd probably hate them as much as I hate Cubs fans.

In all reality, don't all chicago teams suck anyways? Sure the Bears are "on fire" now, but wait until they choke and miss the play offs. Oh how I will laugh :D

Do you even live in Chicago, or are you just trying to tell people who should represent them? I know you have an irrational hatred of anything left of center, but would you cut the crap? You cannot tell people how to vote. Apparently, a large enough number of people consider him to be a good enough mayor.
It is a free speech society? Wilgrove can support whoever he wants. If Wilgrove is instrumental in getting Daley ousted through this forum, I would be totally surprised. Wouldn't you?

as i said, they blew our allotment for sports gooditude and more in a big blaze of worldwide fame grabbing glory - shit, michael jordan is still more widely recognized around the world than pretty much any other currently living person. that wasn't paid for with stored up shares of sporting goodness; we blew all of those in '86 in order to make the superbowl shuffle.

As fucked as the IL Republican party is, the IL Democrat party is equally fucked up. That is exluding Quinn. Mark my words, he will be the governor within 18 months when Blago gets thrown into jail.
