NEW YORK (AP) -- Like father, like daughter.

Bindi Irwin, the 8-year-old daughter of the late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, will star in a wildlife series to air on the Discovery Kids network early next year. The show's working title: "Bindi, The Jungle Girl."

Her father, animal lover and conservationist Steve Irwin, died from the poisonous jab of a stingray September 4. Besides Bindi, he left behind her mother, Terri, and 2-year-old brother, Bob.

The show, now in the early stages of production, was originally "going to be a father-daughter thing," starring the nature-loving duo, Discovery publicist Annie Howell told the Associated Press on Monday. "Steve and Bindi were very enthusiastic about doing the show together."

Irwin will appear with Bindi in scenes filmed before his death, his manager, John Stainton, said in an interview on People magazine's Web site.

"Some people think that I would be afraid of them, but I'm never ever afraid of an animal," Bindi said in an interview Monday on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's "Australian Story."

"I just get excited and some that are dangerous I just think, 'Oooh! What's going to happen?' and things like that."

What do you guys think of this? Glad that the kid hasn't been put off of animals for life, but a tad morbid having her dead dad show up in the show, don't you think?

I don't see why that would be "morbid." I mean, Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn are both dead; is watching "Bringing Up Baby" therefore morbid?

Nah. Having one of their kids star in a remake with footage of them might be though.

I slapped Baby Seal on there for the sheer irony factor.

So is the Natalie Cole/Nat King Cole duet of "Unforgettable" morbid, then? Heck, she even recorded that after he was dead. [/curious]

Exactly. And the show was in the works before Steve died, wasn't it? Not like this is something that's been trumped up to make a quick buck (which I doubt the Irwin family needs, given his success). I'll keep an eye out for the show, I sometimes watch Dicovery Kids on a Saturday morning when I get up.

Indeed. If I recall correctly, Steve was actually filming a segment for Bindi's show when the ray stung him.

That's maybe something they'd want to leave out.

Yeah, it does, but you know what? There's such a thing as bad taste, too, that can and should be avoided, even if it means you have to wait an extra week before buying the Porsche.

Yeeeeeeah, I'm pretty sure that won't be making it on the show. Just taking a wild guess here.

since when do people care about taste, as long as it sells?

"if it don't bleed it don't lead"

Which is why entertainment these days is such a wasteland. I'll go on the assumption you're just yanking my chain (perfectly okay).

What kind of sick person allows their 8 year old girl to play with dangerous animals (even after her fauther was killed by one)

Personaly I think this is a time to evaluate the fitness of their mother to look out for the girl and boy. Maybe it would be best if they were not in that household

you get numb and desensitized, buy the lexus, massmurder, some horrible threat, commercial about detergent and makeup, unto to fashion, some tasty pictures of famine and war victim rotting the street, onward to your favorite cartoon.
