Can you be nominated if you die in a stupid manner after you have children if all your progeny repeat your stupidity?

I mean not that it's like a bad idea to let a small child loose with animals.

I realized after I hit post that I'd misspelled awards. D'oh!

Steve Irwin does not qualify for a Darwin Award, because he did nothing stupid.

Oh, and don't submit him. The people who review the submissions are sick of it.

Yeah yeah spare me the fandom nonsense. Though he wouldn't technically qualify because he didn't die of his own stupidity he was irregardless wreckless to the point of suicidal on countless occasions.

Yeah, pity the Darwin Awards don't work that way.

:) Was that deliberate?

Say yes. You can pretend to be ironically smart.

I see. So you're an expert naturalist who's been trained from birth in how to handle wild animals? That must be cool for you.

Just like with anything, it's not reckless and stupid if you know what you're doing. If I tried to perform heart surgery, I would almost certainly kill someone, as I have no medical training, but I'd hardly call a surgeon reckless or stupid for doing the same thing.

And, through a quick glance at the rejected stories at the DA site, Irwin's death was rejected at least sixty-seven times. I think that should say something.

I think he doesn't qualify because he wasn't doing anything "stupid". His job was risky by nature. Cops, firemen, power line workers and lots of jobs carry an element of risk where you are never truely safe. Irwin carried antidote and kits. But this was a freak accident. If a cop got shot while dealing with a standard ticket, or a powerline worker had faulty gloves that were not his fault, they wouldent qualify for a darwin award. Now, if a 16 year old angst ridden teenager decided to go swimming with the rays, that would qualify for a darwin.

Steve Irwin = Not a darwin.

I wouldn't say reckless. Perhaps a bit more of a risk taker than most. What differentiated him from darwin award winners is that the Darwin Awards are given to people that die or remove themselves from the gene pool in a blatantly, and obviously, stupid manner.

Irwin, on the other hand, knew very well the dangers of what he did, and was willing to take the risks to do what he loves, and to spread his word of conservation.

Completely different.

Irwin will appear with Bindi in scenes filmed before his death, his manager, John Stainton, said
Well I, for one, am glad it's not footage of Bindi being filmed with her dad after his death.

No.
