I'm not sure but I've got to say that Hagia Sofia in Istanbul is one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen.

Also the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and the Che Guevara memorial in Cuba (not so much a seven wonder as a seven really damn interesting things of the world).

how any one can pass on the Parthenon in athens (acropolis) i don't know, as the thing was built with mathmatic formulas, not bluprints. that just boggles my mind of that not only could someone design the entire thing in maths but the builders (at least the supivisors) where educated enough to understand the instructions,
not to mention the curving of the coloums to add the optical effect of symmetry over true symmetry

But only because it's from my country....

I thought about this one, but I couldn't bring myself to remove any of the ones I did vote for to put it on the list. I think there are other good votes outside of my seven, that's for sure.

Another close one for me, but again tortured by only being allowed to vote for 7...

I don't see why the statue of liberty is on there..

Me neither actually, it's big, it's neat, it was hard to build... But hmmm, maybe statues have a bigger meaning to some people . There was the colosal statue at rhodes I believe on the original list, and one of zues I think, perhaps some people think there should be statues on the list for the ones taken off.

Neuschwanstein? That's a joke, right?

I don't think it's a joke, per se, I think they voted to trim down the unlimited number to the group they have now. Someone must have been voting for it. Admitedly it was probably harder to build than some of the other things on the list, but the fact that it was never finished made it so I never seriously considered putting it on my list... That and the australian theater, just didn't seem 'right' to have them on the list...

If we're going to make a new list of seven wonders, why are we still listing ancient buildings?

Personally, I find many modern structures far more interesting, functional, and impressive than most of the list you posted.

Personally, I would have this as my list of the "Seven Wonders of the Modern World."

(All names link to Wiki articles)

Geez, no need to get your knickers in a knot just because America hasn't built anything that's a testament to the ages ;)

My list:

1) Great pyramids of Giza, Egypt: The only surviving wonder
2) The Colloseum, Rome: A testament to one of history's greatest empires
3) The Great wall of China: The only structure to date big enough to boast (falsely or otherwise) to be seen from space
4) Easter Islands statues, Chile
5) Leaning tower of Pisa, Italy
6)Machu Pichu, Rome
7)Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

I was going to put the Acropolis, but you know, only 7...

I'm outing myself as a "Sid Meier's Civilization" addict here, but:

The human genome project (even tho' obsoleted before finished)
Universal Suffrage. Democracy was a joke when only men could vote.
The Magna Carta. Laws are for all of us, not just kings.
The Apollo Program. The "Great Space Fuck" isn't done yet. But that was a huge step.

Anyone else notice how many of the engineering wonders in the OP's list were old? Moving a mountain nowadays is just too easy ...

Acropolis - It's old
Colosseum - It's big
Schloss Neuschwanstein - It's purdy
Great Wall of China - It's long
Pyramids of Giza - It was one of the previous wonders, it still belongs on the list
Statue of Liberty - Since we're down one harbor statue, let's pick up another
Taj Mahal - It's shiny

I'll try, as I can remember from photos and TV. I'll try not to be too conventional, as most of the things that come easily to my mind have already been nominated.

Central Park in Manhattan (USA) (a wonder that grass and trees can grow THERE! :D )
The bridges to Kay West (I think) (USA)
One of the bridges to Manhattan (Verrazzano or Brooklyn) (USA)
Bollywood (India)
The Trans-Siberian railway (Russia)
The pyramid lab of Italy's CNR in the Himalaya (India or Pakistan, cannot remember, why don't they unite for good and stop fighting?)
Timbuktu (central-western Africa, cannot remember country)
The airport of Kyoto (Japan)
The Petronas towers (Indonesia) (not very beautiful, but extremely interesting architecture)
The Panama canal (Panama)
The Sky Needle in Seattle (USA)
any Pueblo village (south-western USA)
Babylon, Niniveh and Ur (Iraq)
The Casbah of Algiers (Algeria)
Troy (Turkey)
The Earthenware Army (hope I use the correct english word) (China) (in a few years, that and the Great Wall will be the only memories of ancient China, I fear)
Samarkanda (Uzbekistan)
The JPL in Pasadena (USA) and the City of the Stars in Moscow (Russia, oops that's Europe)

If you're going for the most powerful H bomb, that's the soviet Tsar Bomba (150 Mton fission-fusion-fission). Its reduced version (about 60 Mtons) was tested over Novaja Zemlja in the early '60s. A mockup is displayed in Moscow, I think.

The current hugest dam should be the Three Gorges Dam in China - I think it is even bigger than the Nile's Dam.

The current most powerful accellerator is CERN's Large Hadron Collider, built between Switzerland and France. It sucks an AWESOME amount of energy.

North America: Palenque, Mexico; Statue of Liberty, New York, USA
South America: Macchu Picchu, Peru; Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Europe: Pantheon, Rome, Italy; Eiffel Tower, Paris, France
Africa: Pyramids at Giza, Egypt; hmm, can't think of a MODERN African wonder
Western Asia: Masada, Israel; Taj Mahal, India
Eastern Asia: The Great Wall of China; Petronas Towers, Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia
Australasia: Easter Island Statues; Sydney Opera House, Australia

And I still say Charlize Theron is one of wonders of the modern world, as opposed to Angelina Jolie, who just makes we wonder about the modern world.
Charlize is a dog next to Angelina. You brought it up.

Anyway, the Wonders of the World:
The Great Wall of China
Mt. Rushmore
Atlanta's Airport
Those statues on Easter Island
The Pyramids at Giza
The Coliseum
and The Internet

hmm, can't think of a MODERN African wonder

The dam on the Nile at Abu Simbel. Built in the '60s, italian project.

Anyway, regions with a longer civilisation history (civilisation as in "civitas", I'm not talking about culture) should get more than two options... it is difficult to choose between the Colosseum, the Imperial Forum, St Peter's basilica, and the Pantheon... and that's just Roma!
