Did any Western civilizations ever use the Asian conical straw hat?

I ask because I've seen several ancient Germanic/Norse statuettes of gods like Odin and Thor wear very similar hats.

Can anybody enlighten me on the matter?

Cross cultural contamination is very common, especially during the roman empire era due to the silk road.

The second link is a manuscript depicting a caucasian buddhist monk(red hair, blue eyes, different facial structure), circa 9th century.
