Bjork's videos tend to be great... also the white stripes.

I am shocked that you, or in fact anyone over 18 likes Tristania, as I am dismayed that you're only highlighting Nightwish's crap, rather than their quality earlier music.

Their music is high quality. So don't be so shocked. More mature than most bands in its genre anyway.

Don't whine, act! Post some of the better stuff then. These aren't necessarily my fave songs from each band (unless I specify).

Well, yeah. The woman in the video is just there for a contrast... Black Tiger obviously wants to stand out from the whole gangsta crowd, which certainly isn't bad...

However, I remember a great video about some guys who (according to the lyrics) think they're great, are successful with women, friends and so on, while the text is written very tongue-in-cheek (you'd notice that the opposite seems to be true, with the video supporting this impression). Really a funny one... I'd like to post the link, but they have taken it from their website. Too much traffic :(

Actually, their last two albums, Epica and The Black Halo, are loosely based on the story of Faust. The theme is a sort of conflict and balance between good and evil - There are indeed a lot of philosophical overtones to the whole thing.

I guess it just comes with the style, be it opera or death grunts. You don't listen to it for the lyrics but for the sound itself. Kamelot is an excellent exception to that. So is Epica for that matter.

Tristania can be too, depending on the song. If you read the lyrics and play it loud it's perfectly clear (Vibeke's vocals always being comprehensible and gorgeous of course). Qntal, as you'll see, is easy to hear, but the language is antique. :p

A fair enough point, but one that doesn't necessarily have to be made when it comes to aesthetic appreciation. I'll readily admit to not being a fan of bands with completely unintelligible lyrics, especially overused grunts and screams. Still, if the music sounds pleasing then I can enjoy it for what it is.

And I love Rush, they're probably one of my favorite bands ever, in any genre.

Point made and taken, though I still feel that the bands who sacrifice one thing for another shouldn't get as much of my respect. In my opinion, the bands that don't have to compromise are much more worthy of both my time and my memory.

The problem is, some bands like Nightwish make perfectly good music (you should read their lyrics - awesome grasp of mythology), but due to the fact that Tarja puts such high pressure on her voice (one of the reasons I prefer Vibeke Stene to her) -and due to the fact that she is Finnish, making her pronunciation a little bad-, it becomes a bit hard to understand what she's saying without first having read the lyrics. This doesn't change the fact that they are awesome though.

I love what I've heard from Nightwish.

However, you missed the point of what I was saying. I wasn't talking about vocal stress or bad pronunciation... I was talking about bland and/or simplistic lyrics. Like getting a bunch of outstanding musicians together, and then throwing in a run-of-the-mill lyricist/vocalist. Of course, it rarely happens that way, but I think you can see what I mean.

Of course, it rarely happens that way, but I think you can see what I mean.Like most gore-metal bands.

Oh, I see what you mean - no, what Radical Centrists and I were referring to was moreso bad pronunciation than anything else.

I'm also tabbing the drumline to Rush's "The Camera Eye"... To my vinyl rip of Moving Pictures, no less.

Hey, the CD remaster totally kills Neil's percussion. It's nothing like the vinyl master!

haha...well, a) I know better than to debate the benefits of vinyl (or, really, anything music related) with you. Take that as a compliment b) I tend to agree with you. The only problem is a portable record player is SO inconvenient.
