Waking Life

I haven't seen this one, but I've heard great things about it -- very great things. It's basically about a guy who's trapped inside a lucid dream (a dream where you know you're dreaming) and wanders around listening to the deep, rambling, philosophical monologues of his subconsious dream characters. The whole film's done in that funky rotoscoped look (like in A Scanner Darkly), which gives it a shifting, surrealistic feel.

From what I've heard, it's supposed to be one of the most provocative and original movies to come out for a long, long time -- and judging from these clips, there might be something to that... see for yourself:

Great stuff. Anybody else seen it?

I loved it. do NOT watch it while high. You'll freak yourself out and fixate on digital clocks.

I've only seen it once, and that was during my grade 11 intro to philosophy class. I must say... its a verrrry trippy movie...!

Fantastic movie. Linklater is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. A Scanner Darkly was great as well (despite Keanu Reeves).

I've seen Waking Life a good dozen or so times. I absolutely love it. Every time I watch it, I'm left with a little more to comprehend, to contemplate, to understand. It's a gold mine.

I like provocative. I like philosophical. I can even get behind quasi-intellectual babble (pompous or not). What I want to know is, is it comprehensible or is it masturbatory tripe?

From the looks of the clips it seems awful.

The um... thing is um... err... ah shit, i have it playing in the background and its sucking out my ability to criticise it with its stupid shitness.

I want to check it out, I havent heard of it before this point. Thank you for bringing it up. The last movie I watched with any real philosophy was "A Clockwork Orange", I didnt really like it.

Exactly! It seems to think that it can make itself seem smart by referencing a writer every few seconds. Its a film not a friggin' essay. In any case, it gets a D-.
