Which country is more against evolution than America?

Desperate Measures

Just heard this in the morning on Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me. I cannot remember the exact percentage of people in the country who do not believe in evolution but it was something like 49%. Now, one of three things can happen. You can vote without looking at the spoiler, you can already know and vote the correct answer or you can look at the spoiler and vote and go to hell. Choose wisely.

I figured it was Turkey. Many Vaticans officials are also scientists these days and see no reason why Evolutionary Theory and Creationism should be at odds in todays age.

As far as being "against" it, remember it is still just a theory. Some people choose not to believe, even though it makes sense.

I strongly suggest you abandon this line of questioning. Accept it at face value. Many men in the dark shadowy world of public opinion research died to bring us this information.

I thought Creationism was a protestant thing...

It is not merely a theory. Some people just choose to ignore that we are already a century ahead of Darwin's original ideas.

I don't know if anyone's ever thought of this, but evolution doesn't necissarily negate creationism.

Well, a scientific theory is a good hypothesis (as in, one that can be proven through controlled experiments and observations, not something like "God is real") that has gone through rigorous testing and not be proved false. It also gives an explanation for a set of observations. This is much different than a layman's theory. Some theories worth mention: gravity, cell theory, the big bang, genetics, etc.

What made you think that? The book of Genesis is common to all three Abrahamic religions, and every other religion that has ever existed has also had some sort of Creation myth. Untill the advent of Science, Creationism was a global thing.

Aye, true. But the most forceful creationists were, and some would argue still are, the protestants.

Actually, the Vatican is going backwards. The last pope was very pro-evolution, while the current one is not. The big thing about Catholicism is that there has not been an official policy set on it, so people just pick out of what a pope or cardinal says what they want to read into it.

Actually, most sociologists view Juche (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juche) as a sort of religion these days anyway, as it has long since crossed the line from being a simple political ideology.

Creationism is not only having a creation myth. It is the stubborn adherence to the literal meaning of the words in a book and the rejection of any mental development toward a wider understanding (of anything). Catholics have no problem with evolution, only protestants don't evolve...

Whats "theistic evolution"?

Does it mean, that a god is interfering into the evolution? Or does it mean that a god only has set the rules and the stopped doing anything.

The first thing would be intelligent design which has nothing to do with Darwin. The second alternative could fit to the evolution theory.

The important thing of the evolution theory is that evolution is "blind" and that there is no special goal.

Well, the Protestants in Europe don't have any problems with the evolution.
But here they are more liberal than the Catholics, and much more liberal than the American Protestants. Creationism in the western world only appears in the United States.

Yep - saying Protestants in Europe are behind Catholics is sort of silly, and shows a lack of real understanding of religion in Europe. I am sure East of Eden is Nod knows this though. :)

Und I believe in theistic evolution as opposed to either pure evolution or creationism.

Oh, it appears in Europe too. Parties such as the Party of Christians Faithful to the Bible here in Germany just don't do too well, though. But for some reason, they don't seem as hateful as some of the people I've seen in the US, even if I consider their agenda misguided.
