"Ever since a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in 1931, the law has said that injunctions placed on material before publication run afoul of constitutional protections of freedom of speech. In a subsequent 1971 ruling, for instance, the justices warned that such an injunction "constitutes an impermissible restraint on First Amendment rights."

But in the Florida lawsuit, an anti-video game attorney named Jack Thompson is asking for precisely that. He filed a motion on Wednesday asking the court "to grant some relief to stop the witless, crass release of this game in five days."

Yes, very much so. He said he would donate $100,000 dollars to a charitable organization of a game maker's choice if said game maker made a game where the video game industry the people whom you go after and kill.

Someone did. He said he made the comment out of irony, and refused to pay up. Video Game community donated $100,000 to the charity.

That's the basics, at least, as far as I remember.

Of course his purpose is to make a name for himself. That's always the case when people take on fights they know that they can't win. A handful of people believe the way he does, and he's betting that opinion will turn in his favor so he can point to his record and proclaim himself a morality prophet. It's like when politicians write laws that they know will be struck down by SCOTUS. They look good to certain people for having written it, but they don't make many enemies because the public thinks, as someone else here said, "since he lost his case, I don't care."

Reminds me of the Viking legend of Hfrankel, an evil priest who gets charged with wrongfully killing one of his employees. He loses his land, and his priesthood and is driven into exile, even though the man who beat him was offered the chance to exact capital punishment. He decided to let it end there.

Hfrankel doesn't let it end there. He secretly gathers his distant relatives into an army. Kills all the allies of the man who exiled him, then takes his old land and title back and keeps his defeated foe as a slave.

All because his enemies, presuming him beaten, ignored the threat he continued to pose.

What I meant with 'I don't care' was more about the Bully case than about Thompson. Even though it seems that Thompson's best days are already over. Even the mainstream press doesn't take this guy too serious anymore.

Thompson is a politician, P-O-L-I-T-I-C-I-A-N. Politicians act like jackasses because it gets them on tv. I'm sure that if it wasn't political suicide, he'd spray paint swatzicas all over synogouges if it would get him on tv.
