Troops battle 10-foot marijuana plants
OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canadian troops fighting Taliban
militants in Afghanistan have stumbled across an unexpected and
potent enemy -- almost impenetrable forests of 10-feet-high
marijuana plants.
General Rick Hillier, chief of the Canadian defense staff,
said on Thursday that Taliban fighters were using the forests
as cover. In response, the crew of at least one armored car had
camouflaged their vehicle with marijuana.
"The challenge is that marijuana plants absorb energy, heat
very readily. It's very difficult to penetrate with thermal
devices ... and as a result you really have to be careful that
the Taliban don't dodge in and out of those marijuana forests,"
he said in a speech in Ottawa.
"We tried burning them with white phosphorous -- it didn't
work. We tried burning them with diesel -- it didn't work. The
plants are so full of water right now ... that we simply
couldn't burn them," he said.
Even successful incineration had its drawbacks.
"A couple of brown plants on the edges of some of those
(forests) did catch on fire. But a section of soldiers that was
downwind from that had some ill effects and decided that was
probably not the right course of action," Hillier said dryly.
One soldier told him later: "Sir, three years ago before I
joined the army, I never thought I'd say 'That damn
marijuana'."
War is Hell.
What? Weird.
I knew Afghanistan made a lot of heroin, but thats just funny.

Only ten feet? Heh, I saw some in Arkansas on the side of the highway that were close to twenty feet tall... And that was back in 2002.
One wonders if they're still there, or if some enterprising bastard harvested them.

Bah, we all know Canada has a massive supply of defoliants and assorted chemical weapons.
I bet the Canadian government is sending in a special detachment of mounties to harvest the plants ;)

But if we can burn the proper sections and keep the smoke going, then even if there are taliban hiding in there they won't want to fight anymore. They'll just want some twinkies and a nap. :)

I know several people that would give their left nut to be there.
A video of that would be the best recruitment ad ever for the canadian armed services.

...so no one wants to know why I felt deja vu?
It's due to the fact that I dreamt about a forest of marijuana last night. Considering I do not ever touch the stuff, that was quite odd.

That's amazing - I've never dreamt of forests of marijuana - no doubt due to the fact that I smoke it all the time.

I don't see why they just don't harvest it.
I don't see why they just don't harvest it.
Because they're Americans. Though we Coloradians are trying to legalize Marijuana in our state, I suspect it'll be struck down by the moronic federal government ONCE AGAIN.

Imagine that, if your state passess a law contradictory to one the national government has, its likely to be struck down!
Talk about political randomness!

"the Canadian Armed Forces.. where we just don't just find the enemy, we Smoke em out!" :D

yes. Harvest it... keep it as evidence... and for easier transport, it has to be dried and pack in small cylinders of... what would one use... paper? yeah, paper, it will keep the moisture out... yeah... and to make sure it gets to HQ... every soldier has to carry a bunch of those paper cylinder filled with... terrain evidence Harvested from that mission... yeah... that's the ticket!
