North Korea may have "The Bomb" but they don't have much electricity.

I found a great article just now online. The image just struck me funny. It's amazing how stark the contrast is between North and South Korea. I'm sure, if you saw a food-distribution map, it'd be fairly similar, too. If as was previously mentioned, North Korea's government folds, would THIS be the reason?

We should invade NK and offer it to SK. If they don't want it, Canada can have it.

Psh, if anybody other than SK gets NK, there will be a three way war between Russia, China and the US over who gets the North.

Unfortunately, I don't think China would stand by idly and let SK take over NK...I think they'd fight tooth and nail to expand. I don't think the US or Russia would stand a chance due to proximity, unless they were simply siding with SK, which I suspect the US would. I just wonder where Japan would fall in all this.

South Korea looks like an island...

Also note how Pyongyang is the only city lit up. Looks like Kimmy Kim needed some illumniation for his swingin' bachelor pad -- sorry, make that bachelor palace. :p

That's... wow. Nuclear technology, and yet nowhere near capable on a standardized civillian technology level... that's really pretty sad, not just for North Korea but what it says about nations' priorities on an international level period. I'm sure NK isn't alone in that sort of response.

"Nuclear technology, and yet nowhere near capable on a standardized civillian technology level"

The DPRK does have the scientific know-how -the tech level- to light the whole country, for what little it matters.

Anyway, Pyongyang isn't illuminated just because that's where the Dear Leader resides, but because it is generally the DPRK's showcase city. If you were to visit the capital you'd be hard pressed to guess that it is part of a country with a per-capita GDP similar to that of Togo or Haiti. Pyongyang gives the impression that everything's going fine. It even has an excess of traffic wardens and such (given that private transport is illegal and there's no cars on the multi-lane highways).

The rest of the country offers an alternate assessment, but it isn't just because the Dear Leader isn't there. He has to be somewhere, after all.

Standardised civilian technology level? WTF is that?

Anyway having nuclear weapons but no running refrigerators does not actually say anything about the priorities of the people living there. I reckon And despite what politicians say nations do not have priorities, people do. No electrical power says something of the ambitions and tactics of the dictator. I would hazard that the majority of North Koreans would prefer electricity to nuclear weapons and peaceful ordinary life to saber rattling and double daring others to nuke Korea. I think they prefer not being political prisoners to saying much about it though.
