Is Betterware a scam?

They've got an elaborate website, looks all professional, yet they claim to be a DSA (Direct Selling Association, not the Driving Standards Agency in this case) member and aren't listed on the DSA website. Anyone know whether they're a fake company?

I have no idea who they are, so I haven't a clue about how genuine they are.

My dad used to work for a company called GUS who owned them. They were really a couple of years back at least.

You never get Betterware catalogues through the door? You must live in a posh part of the country.

Don't know if they're a scam or not, but if you want that sort of stuff, try Lakeland. It's got a good reputation, AFAIK.

it really doesn't take much to be a member of the DSA, I wouldn't use that as any kind of decision maker.

Not in the slightest; I live in one of the poorest areas of the South East.

Are they like Avon, or a name that's something like that? We used to get those catalogues, but I haven't seen one in ages.

It's called betterware, that's like a politican talking about religion and values, you know it's a scam.

Actually, it is a genuinly deprived area; like a Northern town dropped into the South East. It was for many, many years a major naval base, the home of the Royal Navy, but then the docks closed about 20 years ago and it's all been downhill since then. They're now starting a regeneration process, but it will probably be years before that has any major economic impact.

Oh, and it's other claim to fame is as the birthplace of the Chav. :)

Pfft. Southend didn't create the chav at all.

You need to go back and re-take your ASBO GCSE, methinks.

Nah, just a huge amount of 'em go "cruzin" there every weekend with the whole modded car bit. I was gonna say Basildon until I saw the sea bit.

Yes I fail at ASBO:( Where is this place you speak of? And yes, Betterware is like Avon with the catalogues through the door, just with crappy tupperware is all.

Ah, now I don't actually give that information out, although, if you're really that interested, there are more than enough clues in what I've said for you to work out roughly where I am. ;)
