Some scary moments going on in NYC as a small plane, or maybe even a helicopter has hit an apartment highrise. I do beleive terrorism is ruled out. But hey its on all the news networks.

Every date is an 'odd amount of time' after another date. The idea that this happening on the 11th day of the month makes it 'suspicious' in itself is ludicrous.
Who knows? It might be terrorism. It's more likely to be an accident or a suicide. Whatever it is I would, like I originally said, prefer to get the people out and secure the safety of those around before starting to point fingers.

Apparently you missed the WBC. Baseball is very popular in Latin countries and Asia. Check out MLB rosters and you will see that the number of US citizens on the rosters is quite low.
Apparently, it isn't shown in the UK, because nobody cares...
In Israel, it may be on TV a lot, due to it being a very strong ally of the US and all, but here, we've got cricket, which is a lot more interesting.

I wouldn't know about Israel, check my location under my name. I live in Chicago, the best baseball city in America.
Some games are on in the UK. I do know a White Sox fan living in the UK. The problem is that if they are live, they are starting between1 and 3 in the morning in the UK.

Yeh...Nike and Addidas just cant pay cricketeers enough to promote their products.
Baseball is the #1 sport in the Caribbean, for whomever mentioned it earlier. Dominicans and Puerto Ricans are hugely into it and are all over America playing on our teams.
The Japanese seem to be a bit interested as well.
It seems like those who can actually play it, do.

Peace to the deceased's family and friends. Cory Lidle was never a favorite of mine, but no one deserves a young death, not even a multi-millionaire Yankee player. And I hope that there are no more deaths that are not yet reported. I know someone who lives in that neighborhood, but I'm not sure exactly where.

Sure it is. Five shows a live game every Sunday night (I think) during the baseball season, plus highlights of several other games in a following programme. Just because you don't watch it, doesn't mean it's not shown. Otherwise I could say that Dr. Who(m) isn't on tv in the UK.

That's true. He came over with Abreu at the deadline.
I guess tonight would be the night to do it since the NLCS game at Shea was postponed. Besides, the Mets are building a new stadium to replace that dump.

He also was on the A's. Doesn't seem like the A's are doing much to win one in his honor.

BTW, Rick Peterson (who was his pitching coach in Oakland) gave a really nice interview about him. He was apparently really hard-working and a really good father and husband. He had a six year-old boy and I heard one of the reasons he was learning how to fly was so that he could travel faster so he could spend more time at home. He was never really talented, but he always worked at his craft and was really happy when pitching. Even though he was ultra-competitive, he was able to seperate his home life with the game. He was a good chess player, an excellent golfer, not afraid to speak his mind, a good pitcher, and an amazing father and husband. -All from interviews of different people that I've been listening to today.

Nah, it happened in Queens, New York, a couple weeks later. It was a small plane crash in a suburban neighborhood, I think. Or at least thats what I thought of when I read that post.

Yeah Lidle wasn't the most talented player. You might say he was a junkballer. Not that that's a bad thing, my favorite pitcher, Mark Buehrle, is a junkballer. He didn't have the "stuff" but he sure knew how to place the ball where he wanted to. That takes a mental toughness to do that.
I also heard from multiple sources that Lidle was an all around good person. People like him are rare in professional sports.

He was just about as average as a major league starting pitcher could be, looking at his carreer statistics. A great person, an average professional baseball player.

Oh fuck off, Baseball is played in the US and that's about all. There is a "world series" which only really includes US teams. Let some Chinese / Caribbean teams in and you can begin to have a sport that people care about.
Cricket is played the world over, and there's a World Cup of it that includes a great many countries.
It's you who's more ignorant.

Agreed, if a person makes it to the majors for any reason he has already FAR FAR passed the realm of average. Its kind of like saying he was just an average Picasso.

Nah- we're going to be beaten like the dead horse while they desperately try to convince us they've really never heard of the New York Yankees and that the world doesnt revolve around American sports and sports stars and how dare we be so arrogant to think that.

In his 9 year career, he played on 7 teams. Lidle was never a front of the rotation pitcher. He was good enough to be on an MLB roster, but never ace material.

Cashman, the YankME's GM, announced yesterday morning that the Yankees are keeping A-Rod.
Besides, you can't trade a player with 5 years and $125+ million on his contract. There is no way the YankME's eat that much of his contract.
For all the grief he is getting, a down year of .280, 35 HRs, and 100+ RBIs is a career year for most players.

It isn't fear mongering, it is opening up a legitimate issue on how planes with no pre-planned flight route can fly through the city at will.

Truly a disaster of the highest.
Something like that. lol
The Batmobile would cause a loud noise if it were shot down and crashed into a building. The plot sickens.
It makes a loud noise anyway. I mean, can you imagine all the noise an engine like that produces?
Can you blame me?
Yes.
Yes. Quite easily, actually.
Indeed.

You would have thought they'd try harder than a Cessena if anyone wanted to do something even remotely shocking, no?
You might think so, yes.
Well, it's a plane, in a high-rise building, in new york, a very odd amount of time after the 9/11 anniversary.
Seems plausible.
No, it doesn't.
It can go about 200mph, according to video.msn.com
That's nothing for planes.
any one remember hearing about some kid in florida flying a cesna into a bank office building. turned out the office was empty and the only thing he accomplished was killing himself. i guess he also left a note saying something along the line of him praising osama bin laden.
it was on the news for about a day. this just reminded me of it
I vaguely remember something about that. That's just cosmic irony at its finest.
61 months, really. Anything special about that?
It's a prime number?
To be fair, having never heard of the Yankees does tend to imply that you're hermit cut off from mankind who has amazingly tripped over an internet connection.
No, that's basically me, and I know who the Yankees are.:p
Why, exactly? Last I heard, the Yankees were something to do with the American Civil War. I very much doubt there are many Americans who have heard of Gloucestershire Cricket Club, for example, so why should I have heard of a baseball team?
I have.
*lies through teeth*
Now you feel bad?
Some people are like that. It's almost depressing to think of what civilization has always been like....
Personally, I'd be more worried by your thinking that a sport I've never played from a country I've never been to equates to 'the world around me'.
Go on, break the cultural norm, and accept that different people know and enjoy different things. It's quite liberating. :)
I concur.
