Favorite Olde-Time CIV
Yep. I'm bored, yes I am...
So, which ancient/classical civ is your favorite? poll incoming.

The Chinese. Actually, the Japanese as well. I like the weapons mostly.

Greece! Love the culture, the architechture, the history, and even the military tactics. Among any "100 greatest humans" list I think the hellenes would have far more individual additions than any other country.
Argh, I'm on the fence on this one
Love greece for its contributions to science, mathematics, philosophy, etc. But the pederasty?-not so much.
China is cool, mainly because it was so diverse. You had tons of different cultures and ideas coming together through the silk road.
I liked pre-caeser rome a lot more than the imperial rome.

Pax Romana ftw.
I am, despite doing a Modern History degree, absolutely fascinated by the Romans c 200bc - c 700bc (I'm fascinated by the entire collapse, the attempts of the east to reclaim the west, and the establishment of papal control, as well as earlier aspects of the Republic)

Sumaria, Babylon, or Egypt.
Women had more rights in those civilizations than any time or place for a long time.
Though certain times in Rome were ok.

This is a tough decision lol. I really like Ancient Rome, from its culture, military, and the cool armor. But then again, i'm equally impressed by the Egyptians for the construction of the pyramids and its culture as well. I guess you could call me a sellout though because on Civ III, i usually play as America for its F-15's in the modern age *loves a good airforce*
While not ancient/classical...Vikings beat the shit out of all the poll options.

Sid Meier's Civ II.
I'm playing that right now!:D
Last week there were 2 powercuts and i lost 2 games as i couldn't save my progress.
I haven't played in 2 years but i am having one of my best games ever, though i have made a few errors in Wonder Building and Research.:(
However it is 1950, i have All Techs and if anyone pisses me off i just send in the Bombers then Drop a Paratrooper on their arses and take as many of their cities as i care for.
Apparently the Roans had a City called Bagacum.:p
ROME FTW!

Rome because:
1.In Civ you have to use Latin alphabet anyway, no support for cyrillic, norse runes, or chinese ideograms.
2.I renamed the roman cities in the CIV files by using the correct latin name (and all capitals), so I get ROMA, TIBVR, ANAGNIA, FRVSINO, BONONIA, AQVILEIA, MEDIOLANVM etc...
3.Romans built aqueducts and roads, and that's very important in Civ.
4.Its fun to rename conquered cities by latinising their names (like romans used to do).
Paris - LVTETIA PARISORVM
Washington - VASINNAE
Berlin - VRSINIA
London - LONDINIVM
Beijing - PECHINVM
Edo - AEDVLVM NIPPONIENSE
Moscow - MOSCOVIAE
Jerusalem - HYEROSOLIMA
Carthage... ooops this one I always raze down, Carthago delenda est!
Edinburgh - CASTRVM EDINORUM
etc...
:D

Greece. That's REAL democracy, not any of this sissy representative stuff we have today.
Verily. Unless, of course, you consider Sparta and macedonia and almost all of not-Athens...
But yeah, they are the only civ with actual democracy. (Teh US, etc. is republic... or democratic republic if they have referenda...)
In fact, the US is almost a bureaucratic republic...

And the fact that roads were a common meeting place. Some rich person was bound to pick up the little one... eventually.
