Are any of you members of a Fraternity or Sorority?

I'm a proud Alpha Epsilon Pi brother.

Nope, but was much amused when I was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa just before I graduated, and a friend of mine got all indignant. "They wait until you're graduating to let you join their sorority? That's an INSULT!"

"Um, no, it's a national honor society."

:D

I would never join such a thing. I can get wasted and have a good time with my peeps without all that "community service" and "character" bullshit

We don't really, as far as I know, have them in the UK.

I get the feeling it's very much a north american thing.

A lot of acid. That, and laughing myself silly seeing Canadian kids lapping up American-style "fraternity" bull-crap. And still more acid.

Though they're not something most Canadian kids gravitate towards - just the hapless US/Republican wannabes and future Tory Senators.

You obviously have never set foot in a fraternity house. They are quite fun. Believe me, you don't see too many "conservative morals" in there.

I had two frats try to recruit me, but I've never been a frat-type.

Plus, at my school, the sorority girls are the arch-sterotype. I can't stand to be around them for more then 10 minutes or I start to get dumber.

I saw some in my fraternity, but then again, we were a far-flung group. We had southern baptists and guys with 8 earrings and purple goatees. Not exactly your typical fraternity.

The southern baptists we gave a lot of hell when they descended into hypocrisy, as they often did. Caused a few rifts in the chapter from time to time, but I never felt bad about giving them shit.

In my experience, the sorority girls are just like the non-Greek girls. I personally am a proud member of I Phelta Thi and Kappa Tappa Kegga. :)

(I prefer to focus on more open social organizations rather than fork over 600 bucks a semester to have friends I can make joining another organization, cruising the clubs, or just walking the campus between classes talking to girls.)

240 micrograms of LSD, a pair of headphones and a copy of UmmaGumma might not make a fan out of you, but I'd be highly surprised if you didn't claim to have seen God at least once, afterwards.

Nope, but I spent a lot of time with people in sororities and frats, so people used to tell me I should have pledged. *shrug* Now that I'm out of uni, everyone just assumes I was in a sorority, which I find rather odd.

Nope, not unless you count honorary fraternities, specifically Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma.

I'm too chaotic and individualistic to be in most any fraternity, not my type of thing.

Only one I ever really gave a thought to was Sigma Phi Epsilon, and only because they've got a goodly amount of quality, and not just party.

BU has a really really shitty greek life. Had I gone to a different school, I would have considered it.

I have tons of friends in them tho (actually, my friend Kate is in a frat...one of [i think] two female frats that were established before the idea of a sorority came about). Really depends on the campus and the frat to determine the experience. The ones I've been to are anything but typical, and I would consider pledging them (been to two fiji frats...probably the best I've seen)

Edit: my apartment is nicknamed Alpha Kappa Upsilon Phi. It comes from me and my four roommates saying "ACFU" all the time, and reversing the U and the F. ACFU comes from yet another mistake. One night, I got a prank call using the Fred Phelps soundboard, and they left a voicemail that only said "Anal copulating faggot jew". It became a joke with my roommates, but that got long to say. So we shortened it to ACFU. Because there is a U in jew appearently.

One of my close friends is a SigEp. They're a fun bunch. :)

And a quality bunch, I might add, as well.

Two of my drinking buddies have reached the positions of President and Vice-President of the OSU Chapter of SigEp, and they almost convinced me to join up a couple of times.

Not only that, but the members tend to be involved and active, for example, our Undergraduate Student Government President, and the Speaker of the Senate are both SigEps. The Associate Director of the Glenn School (where I work) also happens to be a SigEp.

And they definitely break Dobb's image of some sort of hyper-conservative group. Look up the President of the OSU USG, you'll see he's not exactly what you'd call a republican. And his facebook lies!

I am actually a "brother" in Kappa Sigma. In my senior year of college, one of my very close friends performed the initiation ritual for myself and two of our friends, including another girl. It may sound like a joke, but we all took it very seriously (and still do). My friend did this because he felt that we were already his "brothers," and wanted us all to be bound together in this way. I never particularly wanted to be in a frat or sorority, but I respect what it means to him.

Plus, now I can honestly say that I was a drunken frat brother. :D
