Wacky Evangelicals

An evangelical preacher is telling the faithful not to vote Republican. It seems Bush's efforts have delayed the second comming of Christ. Could have fooled me. I thought we were only one more invasion away from Armageddon.

The Houston-based preacher said he believes that the Bush administration has delayed the second coming because U.S. foreign policy has blocked Christian missionaries from working in Iraq, Iran and Syria. http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/cuyahoga/116038288540580.xml&coll=2

And this is a bad thing?

As far as I'm concerned, I hope Jesus takes the scenic route on his way here. :p

To think I got accused of being weird for playing D&D...

What's with all these Armaggedon people, anyways? If they don't like it here, they can always kill themselves, or go to some place like liberated Afghanistan, preach about that god of theirs and get stoned as martyrs (I take it the rule about suiciders not being admitted into paradise still stands).

no kidding!

what kind of idiot who believes in the apocalypse believes that we can do anything to stop it?

if you are going to be an end-of-the-world nutcase you need to get the theology right at least.

Some are giving too many divine attributes to the President. I mean think about it if he could really do all the things people say:

1. 911 - Bush's fault
2. Hurricanes - Bush's fault
3. North Korea Nukes - Bush's fault
4. Delay of Christ's return - Bush's fault

I think this has reached the logical conclusion of absurdity. I didn't realize how powerful the man really was :p

Clearly Bush is the anti-christ and is using his power to corrupt our world and our souls.

As happy as I am to see them not voting republican, I'm still irritated they're going about it the most ignorant way possible, even in their own line of thinking - if god planned for Jesus to come at a specified time, he's gonne come. He knows what's gonna happen, and has planned around it. That's the point of this whole "it's part of his plan" bullshit.

Know your religion before you start talking about it and calling yourself a preacher.

It's a great campaign theme for the dems though:

Vote for us and end will come!

lol! If that site is correct, it kind of contradicts the initial preacher cited in this thread. The end is coming sooner than we thought.

I'm a Christian. I believe we are living in the last days. I don't buy into the dispensational pre-millenialism point of view, but I know several who do and most are not as odd as the ones cited here.

It should be noted that he's violating his church's tax exempt status. Hope the IRS nails him to the wall.

As has mine. If you contribute to charity you can write that off, you don't get to make millions just because you occasionally mention god.

There goes their tax excempt status. Of course if they said "Vote for Bush" nothing would happen.

In 2004 Churchs that said Vote for Bush weren't even noticed by the IRS.

Those who said vote for Kerry, however were targeted.

That's not true. You've got to use code words to tell your congregation who to vote for. Preaching against gay marriage and abortion is the code for "vote Republican". Actually saying "vote Republican" can get your tax exemption taken away.

It can in theory. That doesn't happen in practice, however.
