just thinking a lot about it today, I got the "okay" from my 3 year old to be a clown again (do you ever stop being a clown?) and my first performance happens to be at the end of the month.

I think I have to break character though, since I was auguste and I am missing my white face friend.... I don't really want to be a white face because I think they do actually scare kids.... but whatcha going to do? it's the rules. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clown)

so in general, what do you think about clowns, what is you favorite type? have you ever wanted to be one? if you were one, what type were you?

9 out of 10 people I've met either hated clowns, were afraid of them, or both.

I have no opinion of most clowns, but there is one I like a lot: LG. :)

My wifes afraid of them, but I'm not. (Except mimes. I'm not afraid of them, just dislike them)

I used to work as a clown before i came to university and it was the best job i've ever had. Definitely don't hate them although my girlfriend does. Something stemming from a clown once asking her to marry him (she was 8 at the time)

Can't say I've ever "met" a clown, but I must say anyone who's job can inspire that much laughter and simultanious irrational horror has to be unbelievably cool.

Obviously, I am quite comfortable as an auguste. Children, I've noticed, are particularly more at ease around an auguste than a whiteface. You're right about that.

A solo clown is, by definition, a character clown. Has to be, because he has to act as whiteface and auguste all rolled into one.

yeah, if I go it alone I will be character, but I think I can pick up an auguste, he won't go white face though, and to tell you the truth I don't want to, auguste is where my heart is you know?

No, yes, no - I know they're insane, nope - I'm a clown in spirit at least - always, they're fun, Hugh Romney, yes, Hugh Romney or (if you'd call it clowning) William Claude Dukenfield a la his vaudeville act.

(Extra points for naming the stage names of the clown ans actor I mentioned).

Having little personal experience of clowns, I don't have much of an opinion about them.

However, grinning maniacally while letting out the most deranged, evil giggle you are capable of would surely give me a good impression.

I did the full make-up yesterday and she was fine with it, but I haven't done the combo of the make-up and outfit yet, it's pretty overwhelming I am sure.

I just think they're shit. They can be perverted to be scary, but virtually anything can. Meh.

I used to think clowns were stupid, then i saw my first black clown, driving around in a beat up old lincoln continental, with two palstic spinners in the front, and now rims in the back, blasting carnival music out of kmart brand speakers and amps. Now I love clowns :)
