We didn't have one in a while... and I've been busy painting (ok, when I wasn't screaming with pleasure in bed with my boyfriend :D ), so here's my last two paintings that I wanted to share :

Ok, the photo of this one didn't turn out that well, to be honest, the flashlight clearly shows.

Do any of the other artists out there have something to show? Post it here, folks! :)

My favorite art brag: I have held in my two hands an original Monet watercolor worth a couple of million dollars.

My father works for an art dealer, and when I was little and had no school, he brought me into the office and showed me around. They just had this painting lying around, and my father let me hold it, but I wasn't impressed. I also saw a Picasso sketchy thing and a fake Andy Warhol that time, but I wasn't allowed to touch either.

We own a Sol LeWitt original sketch somewhere (My father's best friend is one of LeWitt's painters).

Some of my father's paintings since I can't do art and I feel like putting some acual art up:
carmine prance (http://hiroichikawa.web.fc2.com/2006/carmine.html)
feeler (http://hiroichikawa.web.fc2.com/2006/feeler.html)
equilibrium (http://hiroichikawa.web.fc2.com/2006/equilibrium.html)
globule (http://hiroichikawa.web.fc2.com/2006/globule.html)

or you can press one link and look through a lot of his paintings...

I love the babypowder and charcoal one... how exactly did you do it?

Colored the entire thing with charcoal, made a few piles of baby powder, tilted it ans tapped it a few times, then crushed up some more charcoal and let it roll down the canvas.

Sorry, I down know how to make that.. seem.. technical-ish.

If you wanna buy anything buy him, I think all of those save carmine prance are just in storage. (Trying to follow in my father's footsteps, sorta:p )
He also makes his own frames, which look cool with his paintings.
Some of his older stuff:

yes, I am very proud of his art. I have however, in many, many attempts at drawing, thinking that the son of two people who got fine art degrees can draw anything, created only one thing that I am remotely proud of, but I don't have any pictures of that, and its not really good anyway.

(ps, cabra, he like your paintings and was wondering what you used)

I don't think I'd be remotely able to afford any of his paintings, I'm afraid ;)
But I think I might give painting on wood a try, I hadn't thought of it myself.

The background of my paintings is thick acrylic on canvas, several layers to give it depth. The moons/vertical strip is aquarel colour on tin foil ;)

Fascinating. Very expressive, definitely captivating. I like it. When I have a moment, I'll have a closer look at her work... it seems very comprehensive.

Green silk isn't too large (mostly because I couldn't get a larger canvas, though), it's about 40 x 60 cm (roughly 17 x 24'', I believe).

I haven't sold anything yet, but I'm considering it... I'm running out of walls at home. Would you be interested? ;)

And so far, I didn't realy do more than can be seen on my deviantart page (http://shenshen.deviantart.com/), except for one which I just finished yesterday and haven't put up there yet.

He is an abstract painter, and you do need to do some research into his lifestory to understand a lot of his work. Unfortunately, seeing pictures doesn't really do it credit since his work is very textural. You need to see them to recognise how good they look.

I am actually, especially his later minimalistic work.

Here's another friend whose work I like:
http://foto.telenet.be/7850754355

She works behind perspex sheets, églomisé-style. They're rather impressive at 150 x 200 cm (5' x 6'8").
To give you an idea of pricing (shipping not included, of course): they used to sell for around 3000 - 4000 €. Since she has some renown in the meantime prices may have gone up quite a bit. For exact info contact her agent at jean.cornet@laposte.net.

Welcome!

She's well into her fifties, been active for about 35 years and an art teacher for about 25. Not that that's enough to have prices go up, but getting "established" does pile upon quality. So does size, rather ridiculously.

I have no idea how she does it: never seen her work at this kind of thing. I do know they take a lot of experimenting and a lot of time to make.

200 for your work would be borderline reasonable I guess. But unreasonable indeed rules. ;)

Have another look:

http://foto.telenet.be/0852724110

the sculpture is by Pierre Delaloubière, French sculptor in metal (h=90cm);
the long & narrow painting is by Belgian Jan Van Hoof, it's actually 3D as well, about 12cm/5'' deep and also metal, a kind of barge (50x200cm);
the 'traditional' one is also by JVH, partly very thickly textured (100x100cm).

Hope you like them.

*lol Unreasonable all the way. I do expect people to haggle over price, that'll be half the fun of it ;)

I'd love to do some rather large pieces, simply because they have the best effect in my eyes. The largest one I have at the moment is Leaves, it's about 60 cm x 100 cm (24 x 40"), and the effect is stunning. It doesn't come across half as well on the photographs.

Well the only war to get good at traditional art (I assume this is what you're talking about) is to try it!

Skips (http://homepages.wyenet.co.uk/gdixon/skip.jpg) are an excellent, and cheap/free source of objects to create art from, you can paint them, manipulate them, use them as props, whatever you like.

I haven't seen it, I'm afraid. I'm only slowly getting into art again, after all I did next to nothing for over a decade (well, aside from the occasional illustration. But that was kitsch, not art ;) )

I find sculpture fascinating, although I've never been very good at it myself...

mmm...Cabra, love the new stuff.

I, sadly, have not had any time to do anything new. There is an art store near me that I want to check out, but I haven't had the chance

Unless you count my room as a piece of art. Which it kinda is:p But alas...no real art

Thanks. :)

I've discovered that there are surprisingly few good art stores in Dublin. But I'm still looking, so maybe I just haven't found a good one yet.

Everything is art, you really ought to know that :D

EVen though I'm supposed to be a ridiculously open-minded art student, not everything is art. That causes the term "art" to lose its definition and become meaningless.

Almost anything can be art but that doesn't mean everything is art. It really depends on the context and the intention.

Dublin is lacking quality art supply shops. My three favourites are Evans (off Capel St, cheap), A4art (113 Thomas St, cheap) and O'Sullivan's (Grantham St, expensive). The shop on Crow St is great for spray paint and for casting materials RPM (http://www.rpmsupplies.com/) of Walkinstown are good.

I'll have to take a picture of my room. for being fully IKEA furnished, it is pretty bad ass. Lots of red and black everywhere.

i wish i still had all my art work to take show here, i was quite proud of some of it. but it all got appropriated by my school when i left, some of it as examples of how to do stuff (:D) the rest got chucked cuz i was on holiday at the time we were supposed to go and collect what we wanted to keep (:()

Some of my father's paintings since I can't do art and I feel like putting some acual art up:
carmine prance (http://hiroichikawa.web.fc2.com/2006/carmine.html)
feeler (http://hiroichikawa.web.fc2.com/2006/feeler.html)
equilibrium (http://hiroichikawa.web.fc2.com/2006/equilibrium.html)
globule (http://hiroichikawa.web.fc2.com/2006/globule.html)

or you can press one link and look through a lot of his paintings...

very nice- reminds me of "Kitaro" cover art

Yeah, the first is "guns and blood," the second is "the explosion." Most of my work is untitled. I've been working on putting some stuff on my website at http://www.illspirit.co.uk/, but it's mostly filler for the moment. I've not had a chance to put much of my older stuff up.

Some are much smaller, and taken from A3 sketchbooks. I used canvas for a few of them. That one is on plywood, though. It's made from brown wrapping paper, acetate and acrylic.
