Reincarnation?
Assuming, for a moment, that one is reincarnated after death...
...what animals might you like to come back as?
I find a good way to do it is to pick three animals...an ocean-dwelling swimmer, a flying animal, and a surface/subterranian creature.
I've got my own I would like to be, which I'll share in a while, but I'm curious what others might come back as, if given an option. :)

An elephant! They are huge, gray and have big ears... and.. trunks!
An african elephant that is.
As for sea creature, I'll go for an Orca, just so I can dismiss Michael Jackson once and for all by being both black and white at the same time.
And lastly, A badger, for the same reason as stated with the Orca.

Reincarnation is, at least as it is presented in the religions that believe it, mathematically impossible.
Better than 90% of all the animals (Human and other) that have ever lived are alive today at this moment. Thus, if we have all been reincarnated then where did all the new animals come from?
For Reincarnation to work you'd have to start out with a large population caused when the cosmic nothingness (Nirvanna) lost its balance and created the illusion of this universe and that population would decrease at a slow endomatic rate over time as various souls became enlightened and acheived the cosmic nothingness again. What we see instead is a high endomatic population growth.
Because the population of all animals as a whole (Individual kinds may go extinct but there are more rats, cats, dogs and cows and such that cover the loss) is increasing you have only four options. Either: 1) new souls are being created all the time. 2) Some bodies have no souls 3) Some souls have two bodies 4) There is no such thing as reincarnation.
Number 4 is the only answer that can be defended logically.

Who said anything about logical arguments? I wasn't speculating about reincarnation.
I was just curious as to what animals NSers might like to be, if they could...after all, 'tis an odd bunch, and the answers should be quite entertaining. :)

Better stick to non-human Earth dwelling creatures...otherwise we're likely to be swamped with a bunch of Yodas or something. :p

Umm, I call a golden eagle, a dolphin (the kind that live in warm sunny waters with lots of surfers, mind) and eh, something land based.

According to Hindu traditions atleast, there are infinite universes and infinite souls. One's soul might go anywhere (per its karma) and any soul can take birth in this earth. So there is no "law of conservation of souls".

For the ocean swimmers, I'd go a Great White Shark. After all, an animal that has never had to evolve for millions upon millions of years simply must be a good choice, yes?
For the air, I'll pick a seagull. Interaction with humans and a wide range of exquisite fish and chips! Also, no threat of human hunting, because who hunts seagulls?
Land or subterranean... hmm, this is a hard choice, but I'd have to go for a fox. Cunning creatures they are, able to slink their way out of everything except fox traps and rifle sights. Oh well, I'd keep away from human settlements, or better yet, I'll be an arctic fox.
There you have it, and if i had to choose subterranean, i'd go for meerkats! They're kinda subterranean... aren't they?

I find a good way to do it is to pick three animals...an ocean-dwelling swimmer, a flying animal, and a surface/subterranian creature.A sea turtle, because turtles rule, a bat, because it would be fun to fly shrieking into people's hair, and a housecat of no particular breed.

I'll need at least seven or eight more lifetimes to get human completely figured out. After that, maybe I'd move on to something really complicated, like an octopus.

A seal, eh? I believe your chances to pick again soon would rise tremendously... http://www.studip.uni-goettingen.de/pictures/smile/droh.gif
Why can't I be reincarnated (if need really be) as a human again? Not that I could really pick up where I left off, but being human ain't bad after all!
Ocean-dwelling: sea otter
This calls for pictures. I have this sudden crazy craving for cute otter pictures, and you won't let me down, right?
Oh, and: turtle, Seeigel or penguin(Germans, help me, too lazy to dictionary this), umm, does lady bug count as airborne?
A blue whale wouldn't be that bad.

I normally wouldn't let you down, but I'm handicapped by the fact that I have the cutest sea otter pic ever in my possession (on non-digital media, sadly) so whatever I'd find on the internet just can't measure up. Sorry. ;)

Nah, Seeigel is sea urchin. And why anyone would want to be a sea urchin is beyond me.

Hmm ...
Terrestrial: A housecat, calico, preferably, and a well-pampered one.
Aquatic: A sea-otter, they're cute (thanks, WYTYG!)
Flying: A condor, only because I've always remembered the bit from that very short-lived Richard Benjamin / Paula Prentiss sitcom where one of the characters sees a couple of caged canaries and cries, "Condors! They go for your eyes!"
