Can't tell yet. But the little cartoon demo didn't do much for me.

Go see the full Google videos of the demo.

Unless you want that day to come soon... ;)

It looks pretty cool, but I don't think it'll be the awsome game to end all awsome games.

Nope, thats Armed Assault's Niche right there. :D

What the hell is the point of answers.com? If I wanted to know what wikipedia has to say about something I'd go to wikipedia.

What would happen if Answers.com decided to copyright their material?

They'd need some of their own material to copyright in the first place.

looks great if its anything like the E3 videos (it was E3, right? when robbie williams came and played? man that was hilarious :p)

sadly, a lot of games like this promise the world and fail to deliver. black & white, anyone? so i'll hold my breath but will still get it either way most likely :)

You play online, I assume, using Gamespy? What's your handle there? I usually run my own sessions so I can keep a lid on the idiocy. My most common session name is "BEER & HOT CHICKS!!!" Tends to fill up pretty quickly. heh-heh

It's called marketing, my friend. And when the game is populated mostly by horny teenagers, that session name works wonderfully when it comes to packing a session with players. ;)

What do you mean? It's Wikipedia's material, and they release it under the FDL - basically, you can do anything with it (well, actually there are some important exceptions that make the CC licences much better) so long as you release it under the same licence and credit all the original contributors (not that anyone bothers, even within Wikipedia).

So...back on topic...yeah, I'm not really impressed with this Spore thing.

everyone whos seen it seems excited, but it could easily turn out that its just funj for a blast and then becomes lame. I still voted for pwnage though. it looks ace and any game has the potential to get screwed up, but it still has to happen.

Black and white kicked ass. It was just black and white 2 that utterly sucked. Black and White could have used a lot more work, but it was a great game based on a great idea.

Spore has the advantage of being made by Will Wright, who has a much more stable reputation of producing greatness consistently than Peter Molyneax (or however his name is spelled.)

true, but B&W did become very repetitive. the starting idea was fantastic, but the eventual implimentation was rather poor... or at least poor after the first exciting hour or two. that was my point - great idea that turns boring very quickly without enough interesting and varied gameplay around it.

i was disappointed with Wright's Sims2, which i thought fell ill to the same trap. the Sims1 was original and great. the sequel however offered nothing new bar better graphics, and became very dull very quickly to me.

this is why i'm holding my breath with Spore. i think it could be fucking amazing, but i'm not gonna hold out for much as i just don't want to get all excited and let down yet again

Eh, black and white was a game for the true sandbox player. The awkwardness of the gameplay was actually a draw to me, as it made it more challenging. That, and I developed a severe love for tree farming and making massive villages.

Sims 2, to me, delivered everything I expected and more, and with the expansions it just keeps getting bigger. (though they are overpriced.)

Spore will be the game to end all games!

Think about it, it's 6 games in 1. You can play a better version of Pac Man. Then you can play as whatever animal you can think of. Then you run a tribe anyway you want. Then you play a simple (but with good graphics) Sim City game. Then you play a simple (still with good graphics) nation sim. Then you play a galatic conquest game.

How can you lose?

Not to mention the fact that the "massively single-player" concept offers a near-infinite variety of creatures to toy with...
