In general. If somebody says "USA," what do you think of? Hitler or fluffy rabbits? Flawed military campaigns or an excellent system of government? Does the term "USA" have a positive or negative connotation in your mind?

I think Texans are nuts(seem to take religion too extreme for my liking), but generally the USA is ok in my eyes. I haven't travelled around much of the US but I've met loads of Americans here in London and they've all been nice so far. None of the Floridians tried to shoot me when I was there either so it's all good:)

It's too rainy at the moment.

Come to Texas, we're in an extended drought. :D

I would also like to stand up and be more proof that there *are* people in Texas who are *not* crazy GWB Christophiles. He was fine as governor (because our governor is a figurehead position with no real power) but he definately should not have become president (I blame his brother, Jeb, for giving him the crucial votes to win - aka Florida)!

As far as BBQ goes, I think it's difficult to really, truly compare TX BBQ with that of other areas (like the deep south). In Texas BBQ is predominately beef (beef ribs and brisket). In the deep south BBQ is predominately pork (what do they cook at that huuuuuge BBQ competition in Nashville, TN? Pork). In places without a culture of BBQ, they think putting sauce on their chicken and popping it in the oven is making "BBQ Chicken". Many, many BBQ places I go outside of Texas don't even seem to know what Brisket is, let alone make it.

Oh, and as far as what I think about the USA (to keep this on topic), I generally think it's pretty okay, with the definite exclusion of our President, a lot of the corruption of our government, and our foreign policy.

Austin has my heart, though I'm stuck in San Antonio for the next 3 years. I'm a fan of pork tenderloin and pork ribs, but brisket has a special place in my tummy.

Rural Texans can be a little more pushy on the religion subject (well, some "big city" Texans can be that way, too); it's what happens when you live in the Bible Belt. But all in all Texans are good people. I love that we say "sir" and "ma'am" to people, that we're taught to be friendly, and that we smile and talk slow (we don't jump right to point of why we came over or called, we'll spend a little while catchin' up and askin' how the kids are doing before getting down to business). I also love how Texans pull together as a group and are unified in their love and pride of Texas (sure there are probably exceptions to everything I've said here).
