Best European City?

Swilatia

Okay. its quite simple, the question is in the title. European cities only. And there will not be a poll. not even if ou are all begging me to add one. Thats right, no poll, after all even if it was narrowed further down to Eyropean capitals, there would sitll be too many to have a decent poll, as a decent poll consists of a wide range of choices and a funny joke option, and that is just not possible with that many cities.

Ah, but Vietnam was ruled by the French at one point, so that would make French cities the best in the world. Although England once ruled much of France...and France successfully invaded England...this is going to make my head hurt...

no. European cities are better. after all, American cities are just pollution, litter, and heavy traffic. there is nothing to see. European cities have much more. European European cities can be quite beautiful, while american cities, especially detriot, are just plain hideous.

Also, its no a black and white situation, just to see if you are a bot or bushanomics, i will ask you, what do you think of South American, Canadian, Mexican, Central American, African, Australian, Middle Eastern, and Asian, and Swilatian cities.

And how many times have you been to the US? You must have been to Detroit a number of times to develop such a strong opinion of it, or else you'd just be talking out of your ass.

Your raging anti-Americanism is astounding, especially since you're so young and thus have probably never been there. You're just as silly as those Americans who rabidly bash the French.

Anyway, my favorite European city has to be Geneva. It feels smaller than it is and is extremely safe, while still having a lot of things to do. Of course, I haven't been to every major city in Europe so I can only go on the ones I've visited.

Good for the Poles. Unfortunately international travel beyond Canada or Mexico tends to be a bit too expensive for most Americans. Personally, I try to spend as much time outside of the US as possible, but being a student makes that a bit difficult. However, I am going to France for my spring semester this year and I'm very much looking forward to it.

Paris is near the bottom of all cities I have ever been to so far as everytime I have been there (admittedly only 3 times) I have ended up meeting the most rudest people ever and instead of litter they have way too much dog shit on the streets (though not near the biggest tourist attractions). never having been there, but zirmat gets my vote for being car free, plenty of rail access, up in the hills, where the locals go to recreate, et c. et c. ...

bilbao is another i'd be curious to explore. culturaly i suppose france, netherlands and the scandinavian countries.

i prefer cold to heat and mountains to flatland valleys.

i'm not really much of a city person anyway. smaller town, served by narrow gauge railways are my preferance. there are several in austria and poland that would be candidates also though i can't always remember their names.

obviously lots of places in switzerland, austria, poland, even romania. some parts of northern spain and galithia, whatever it's called now, basqueia.

i might want to ride the little train through provance.

trying to think of a town that i know the name of off hand, well what zerrmatt or however it's spelled was the last time i saw some videos of it, i think as much as any one town, comes to mind.

if gb counts then up arround inverness maybe. i'd like to at least visit finhorn. oh and of course all the little former slate railways that are now preservationist tourist lines near harlec in cymri.

Well, I can't pick one so here are my 5 favourites. Cardiff, Edinburgh, Lyon, Gevena, Cologne. Cardiff, nice people, lively, a bit of something to do for everyone, and easy access to the countryside. Edinburgh, nice people, gorgeous city, one of the few places that I have been that was more interesting that I thought it would be. Lyon, great sites to see, easy to get around, loads of things to do, big city but doesn't feel as rushed, amazing food. Gevena, very beautiful surroundings, many interesting sites, clean, if I was richer I would like to live there. Cologne, fun, lively, nice sites, great city to just wander in, go for Karneval and you have a great time.

Several historical misunderstandings have been put forth I will correct them.
-America did not kill Europe during the second world war, the US helped fight Nazis. Neocon Pride you should not make such idiotic comments that make us conservatives look like ignorant fools. After all conservatism is based on a European idea, founded by the Irish MP Edmund Burke.
-England invaded France yes, but did not conquer it (the hundred year war 1315-1410). Furthermore the invasion was based on a legitimate claim by the the Norman rulers of England to the throne of France. (the Normans invaded England before England invaded France).
-At the same time the vikings invaded England and lost a battle against King Harold of England 1066 A.D. William the Conqueror faced Harold at Hastings in 1066 A.D. William beeing a distant cousin of the vikings can not be called french. He was Norman, Norman means man of the north. Normans came into history as a result of Viking invasions of northern France, and they settled there.

Ok now I´m done, just had to say it.

Birmingham!!!

Not only is it the best city in the UK, but it's the best city in the entire world!

And yes, I am of course joking! It's a concrete monstrosity that'll see you get lung damage - if not from the pollution, then from the gangs of knife-wielding psychokids! Beautiful!

you're alive!!

Paris was my favorite that I've been to, but I only have seen a few. St. Raphael was pretty nice too.

as for nice American cities, Detroit is hardly a place to go by. Boston, Philly, NYC, Miami, Chicago, Honolulu...great cities.

Heh, ofcourse I'm alive.

Anyway, my favorite European cities so far have been, Copenhagen, Helsinki, or Venice, but there are so many others that are great its really hard to choose!

Paris is a nice city. It is not my favourite city in France, but I like less crowded places. It is a lot cleaner now that it used to be. I am there a lot of the time for my studies, and I don't see dog poop on the pavement anymore than you would anywhere in the UK. Sure, it is not as clean as most places in Germany or Canada, but it seems just as clean as any big city in the US or UK. There is a lot to do in Paris, especially for art lovers. Most people aren't rude to you as look as you try to speak a little French, there are some rude waiters, but they are rude to everyone not just tourists. :D I am sure you will have good time.

I have lived in Birmingham for all of my twenty years of life and you know what? I agree with you. When God was making Britain, Birmingham is where he placed his Porta-Loo. The words 'post-industrial hell hole' and 'Birmingham' were made for each other.

Dresden was nice, although they were still repairing bomb damage from the war (damn Soviets, didn't fix anything for forty years...*grumble*) when I was there. Both the Altstadt and the Neustadt were nice, although, I loved walking on the balcony, very pleasant, very nice, place I could relax.

I also loved Salzburg, beautiful city, good food, good beer and they even had Pepsi products (joy! Mountain Dew! joy!).

I'd like to get to some of the Meditteranean cities, they'd be nice to visit.

Geneva all the way from here (Geneva) to there (well Geneva)...

In a poll of which city is the best to live in i think it got 98% and was number 5 together with 4 other cities (Because of that there was no 2,3 or 4)...
who became number 1? Vancouver with 99%...
Copenhagen, which I'm from got 98% too but was number 11
