I just played the Medieval Total War 2 demo.
I think I should simply commit suicide now. Now experience in life can possibly top the joy I have just felt.
You only get two battles, some crazy Italian battle between Spain, the HRE, and France, and Agincourt (the most overdone battle in history), but still...it was so amazing. It was like sex for my eyes combined with some sort of very potent drug injected directly into my brain.
First off, the graphics. Theyre amazing. Really. The details have been much improved from Rome. Gone are the clone armies, instead there are roughly 5-6 models per unit, which is good enough that the armies LOOK authentic. Also gone is the horrible colouring which many complained about, the men wear much more authentic clothing (Although I found the guys wearing the crusaders cross in the mid-1500's a little odd, wouldnt they be rather old for army service by that point?). The armour is nice as well, quite well detailed AND historically accurate, to a point.
Theyve also added some really amazing animations for the units while fighting, I saw lots of fancy spinning, thrusting and parrying in the 1500's battle, and lots of ferocious bashing in the Hundred Years War.

On to the gameplay. Things have improved a bit since Rome, while technically the same engine, you would hardly recognize it. Units dont react in sync anymore. You need to plan for one flank maybe getting a bit behind if you have people run somewhere. And your archers dont all fire in perfect sync as well. I was a BIT dissapointed with that, as it removed the dramatic flights of arrows, especially since the English longbowmen didnt perform the famous 'rain of arrows' dealy.
It was still cool though.
Identifying your units in battle is a bit more difficult as well, since people are generally wearing the same clothes unless theyre knights, in which case your national colours dominate their scheme. This can be confusing, but it definitly adds to the immersion.

The little trailer that came with the game only added to my excitement. I saw Aztecs. I have, for some time, fantacized about playing this game as the Aztecs and invading Spain ;)

Other random features I noted in the demo were unique units for kings, which could possibly be cool. Ive always wanted my monarch to stand out more in battle.

I can only hope that God will strike me down now, because the purpose of my life has been fulfilled.

Hey, mine's fulfilled by a lie-in, followed by eating chocolate and watching vids.
How empty is that?

Interrupted by the odd good shag, beers etc, about the same as most, I'd say.

I don't come on the forums to fulfil my life. I come on them to avoid working. :p

Try volunteering to help people in bad situations (or wait until a random person gives you a lot of money). Then you might know real joy :)

Upon a brief search, it would appear that the demo has, in fact, not been released. Where did you play this exactly?

Let’s not mix up genres here. The experience of totally fucking dominating the entire Western World is entirely different from the satisfaction of brutally slaughtering individual enemies or cleverly planning their demise in excessively elaborate fashions.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is absolutely freakin' awesome, yes. But it's an FPS not a TB/RTS. Apples and oranges.
Righteous Munchee-Love

But... but... neither won't run on my pc! Thus both belong to genre B (won't run), quite distinguished from genre A (runs; like, say, WC3 or, um, Minesweeper).

Yea, I need a new comp >.>

@ Everyone:

I am almost certain that you must first pre-order the game at Amazon.com, or be a subscriber of PCGamer to receive the demo.
