Endorsements for the 2006 US Midterm Elections

So, while we sauntering around the land of a month before the midterms, I figured those of us who feel like it might want to issue endorsements for this election. I encourage not only national races, but local races (your uncle running for coronor? Give him your support here!)

As such, here's my list.

Governor of Ohio: Ted Strickland (D).
This one's a no brainer. After years of the horrendously incompetent Taft administration, we need to have change in my state. Congressman Strickland is a superb candidate, not only on the basis of his actions, but he has also shown himself to be an electable candidate, something the Democrats haven't fielded in Ohio since John Glenn left the Senate (I might add, the last democrat elected to statewide office in Ohio was Senator Glenn.)

Senator from Ohio: Mike DeWine (R).
Not so much of an endorsement of Senator DeWine, as opposition to his openly populist Democrat rival. Sherrod Brown has routinely opposed Free Trade Initiatives, and has a very poor record of influence in the House. Senator DeWine does have his role in breaking the court stalemate riding with him. To have kept the checks and balances intact was a vital factor, and I respect him for breaking from his party on that matter.

Representative 16th District: Ralph Regula (R)
He'll not leave office until he dies. Why bother.

Not only that, but he's an immensely powerful congressman, and his influence has been used to help the people of Stark County.

Statewide Issues: Issue 4, Smoke Less Ohio
On this ballot Ohio has Issue 4 and Issue 5. Issue 5 is an outright ban on smoking in public places in the state of Ohio, Issue 4 allows business owners to decide whether they'll allow smoking in their business or not. Even though it would ban smoking in 90% of Ohio's businesses, it would supercede Issue 5 because Issue 4 is a Constitutional amendment.

Statewide Issues: Issue 3, Casino Gambling in Ohio
No longer will people who want to gamble go to some miserable state like Michigan and spend their money there. Now they can spend money in their own state. Awesome!

Expect more endorsements, I still haven't looked at everything thoroughly, and I will have to figure out stuff about other races, awesome.
