Not really anything to comment on, but just something really cool:
Mars orbiter looks down on rover
Nasa's new orbiter at Mars has taken a spectacular picture of the Opportunity rover sitting on a crater's rim.
The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter arrived at the Red Planet in March and has only recently moved into a prime position to begin science investigations.
Its view of Victoria Crater will help US space agency researchers decide where to send Opportunity to make ground observations.
Imaged from a height of 297km, the 2.3m-wide rover appears as a tiny dot.

Incredible when you think that just over 100 years ago Man flew in a powered machine for the first time in our history and now we have a frigging sattelite orbiting another planet 80 million klicks away taking photos of a machine we've landed on said planet.

How about the fact that the rovers were supposed to have stopped working like over a year ago or something and they're still running! Too bad NASA doesn't make cars.

I sure can't wait to go - looks great for golfing! http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y223/GermanNightmare/Astronaut.gif
As for the cars, DCD... Nobody could afford'em and they tend to blow up when least expected, eh?

Looking at that picture a bit more, I'd say NASA's sattelite is better than most we have floating around Earth!
It can take pictures of things not much bigger than a person. GoogleEarth doesn't have that resolution.

This is very cool and it always makes me happy when my tax dollars get spent on something like this. Beyond the science itself and the future benefits that may come from it, it's just really cool! :D

Ya, but think of there acidents, one of the landers crashed because they forgot to convert metric to American Standard (or vice versa). Immagin if your car's spedomiter randomly switch between KM and Miles without telling you, think of the speeding tickets you get till you figured it out. :p

Google Earth doesn't use the best satalites though. Some satalites have been reported to be able to read a newspaper if it lies flat on the street.

Mars has a much thinner atmosphere, thus less interference too. Also google earth images are usually atleast a few years old, and certainly not using state of the art imaging satellites.

Damn straight! :D
I'm a geologist, so when I see pictures of exposure like this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/06/sci_nat_enl_1159541511/img/1.jpg), I want to run straight to the outcrop on the right - teh awsomeness!

I'll not be happy until we've got more than just machines on Mars, but also men and women. And on a long term basis.

That's cause they don't use the metric system in the US.
The calculations where done in metric, but the programmers assumed it was Imperial.

Well, the first courses might have to use artificial turf, at least until we get the place properly provided with an atmosphere and enough water to grow grass. And people play in Arizona and New Mexico, you know, you after of a little sand? :D
