Fattened up to avoid slaughter?

Gitmo detainees are bulking up. They're eating nearly twice the normal ammount of food and getting no exercise.

One detainee has almost doubled in weight, to 410 pounds, said Navy Cmdr. Robert Durand, spokesman for the detention facilities at Guantanamo, a U.S. Navy station in southeast Cuba.

Is this a secret plot to make the detainees too fat to commit acts of violence when they're eventually released? Or maybe it's designed to make them identify with the average Big Mac-fed American suburbanite.

I remember a few years back that a prison warden actually tried that--gave his prisoners fatty foods and increased things like tv viewing times and limited exercise opportunities. The idea was that if prisoners got used to living fat, they'd want to do the same thing on the outside, and it seemed to be working. Of course, he was quickly fired in favor of someone who said he'd stop coddling prisoners and punish them (as though prison isn't punishment in and of itself).

Maybe it's to give an excuse to shoot them when they get out, since a bulging stomach could give the appearance of having explosives strapped to you?
I smell a conspiracy theory.

Have you created some sort of google-type program that actively hunts down weird news?
It's the only answer I can come up with.

Maybe it's a plot by al Qaeda: Know thine enemy.

Yay! I love it when American tax dollars are being spent on feeding detainees better than the average family in this country. The human rights activists still complain, though. It's always something: the cells aren't air-conditioned, the cell are air-conditioned too much, not enough food, too much food, guards not sensitive enough to Islamic culture...

IMO, if we wanted to make prison a little less fun and possibly get some information without using "torture," we should only feed them food that is made of, or prepared with, pork products.

Because everyone sent to Guantanamo is automatically an evil terrorist.

Maybe it's a plot to make all of the suspects die of heart disease, thus avoiding all that silly 'trial by jury' nonsense.
