I have a blister on my big toe. its quite large. And it hasn't broken yet. It's causing me some discomfort in shoes. So my question is; should I burst it, or just leave it? It's been there some 4 days now. And it keeps getting bigger.

mine lasted over 6 months but eventually it grew out, it dosen't hurt or do anything.

Cut out two small but long pieces of styrene foam (there are plenty of other things you could use too), place them on either side of the blister (so they're not touching, otherwise there's no point) and put a band-aid over the top of them. You'll be able to wear shoes again with no discomfort and it should heal without popping.

New shoes?

Don't pop the blister, it's there for a reason.

And if it's been caused by new shoes - next time buy some that fit properly!

thanks for the help. Kanabia, I'll definitely try that.

pop it and piss on it.
No seriously. Urine will help toughen it.

Hmmm I might leave that one alone. That could be painful. And I'm a wuss.

DON'T POP IT!

if you pop it you might get a nasty infection....also it's gross.

If it's not too big you can buy those calous pads at the store, they are self stick and have cushy so that you don't bump it.

wear socks with your shoes, and maybe you won't get anymore blisters. ;)

You're welcome. :)

They're more or less the same thing as what I suggested, but why spend money? :p

I seemed to have missed your post....sorry.

all I saw was the "pop it and piss on it" suggestion, and I was like "omg no!"

I suppose I can find the heart to forgive you. This time. *pats*

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who had this reaction.

Though, I am asking for medical advice on NSG. I guess I should expect some *ahem* non-traditional remedies ;)

Poping it and killing the infection with something would probably work. I'd suggest paint thinner.

I had one like that before. Don't burst it, just leave it. Put bandages on it to assuage the pain somewhat, but otherwise, leave it alone.

This is Nation States General.
We give answers to the big questions, but immediately refute them. Then debate them, then characterize each other's opinions, go off on mad tangents, get personal until threatened with a banning, and finally drop the matter.

Your toe, even your big toe, is not a Big Question.

See your doctor. He will give you a plaster, and tell you not to be a Big Sissy. It's a blister, it's on the opposite end of your body from your brain, and is surely not a Big Deal.

My personal advice: go barefoot. There's a whole world down there.

Good advice. Hopefully nature will take its course and a piece of broken glass or sharp stone will pop it for you.
