Who's Ready for BSG Season 3?

Two hour season premiere this Friday, and since I finally got a satellite dish, I don't have to wait to bittorrent it to see it. I think it's the best-written show on any channel not named HBO (because The Wire holds the HBO and the overall titles).

So who's in? And which character won't make it through the season alive?

Bah! I love that show, but the crappy school cable doesn't get Scifi.

I’m a little nervous about the direction the show is taking. I watched the original mini-series with my son just the other day (again) and I was reminded about how great it was, and I have to admit, I wonder where those people and that story plot went?

Because the show they are making now has nothing but the same names involved to remind us that they are supposed to be the same people…

I’m nervous because I’m afraid the producers and directors and writers think they are better than the storyline. I’m afraid that they will get too far away from the basics of what drew us into the story to begin with.

Not sure what I mean? Consider this: the fugitives were so powerful by season 2.5, fighting back and winning and gaining ground against an increasingly weak Cylon enemy that the writers had to come up with new human enemies to awe us. THEN they turned the human enemies into allies and made the original problem even worse…

THEN they had to make the humans so stupid and story changing in character just to bring back the recently castrated Cylons (castrated because they can no longer respawn, they are weak and weaker as the story progresses) they had no chance unless we made a fatal mistake for them to take advantage of…

NOW the story is about a captain that needs to regain his self respect? WTH is that? WTH is this compared to the ending of the original mini-series? This would compare to watching episodes of Captain Kirk in AA and forced sensitivity training lessons while his ship is grounded until he stops drinking and sexually harassing all the women in his command… It might be ‘right’ thing to do if it were real life but it would make for really crappy TV.

Hopefully (crosses fingers), the producers and writers will get back to their bread and butter, which is, fugitives in an alien universe, trying to survive and populate the universe once again while being hunted by a superior and deadly heartless enemy….

Battlestar Galactica was never about that. It's about the contrast between humanity and inhumanity and faith and science. The cylons, at times, appear more human than the humans. The weaknesses are intentional.

True. Sometimes the Cylons make more sense, while the humans are bogged down by their petty squabbles.

We'll have to wait until Satuday in Canada.
