What Say You, O Romantics of NSG?

It's a nice enough idea I suppose, as long as you're picking her up from her house. I wouldn't want to be given flowers on a date if it means having to carry them around for hours.

however, a nice orchid or two? perfection.

Hmm.

1) I thought you girlfriend was on NS, too? So didn't you just spoil your surprise?

2) Callas can be nice, as can roses - but both of those together? I'd guess the rose look a tad out of place and lost, but what do I know. Go to the flower shop and see how it looks.

I've posted this before....but probably not much outside of Spam.:D I "met" her waaay back on the 3rd of last month. I was chatting with an old friend from high school in MSN (she was using my girlfriend's computer 'cause they're suitemates), and they decided to talk to one of the other's friends. And I was conveniently online. So we chatted for an hour or so and I invited her to chat with me whenever she wanted. By the 9th, she was mine. And the 21st is the soonest I can go see her. She really is quite taken with me. Spent 50 hours talking over a six-day period (I had to keep a time log for a class:p).

Well, you know me, I'm not someone for traditional/stereotype romantic ideas. I know that even though you haven't met her irl, you do know her for some time online. Wouldn't it be better to think of something personal to bring, instead of flowers?
That's just me, though.... the symbolism of flowers always tends to freak me out slightly. You cut them off, then put them in a vasr to watch them die slowly. I never understood how this came to be a symbol of love.

Ok, to clarify : Giving me flowers - not a good idea. Giving me stuffed toys (yes, I once actually had that on a first date) - bad idea. Giving me a CD by yourself or your band - good idea. Giving me anything personal, anything with meaning to me and you - very good idea. Giving me a hug and a smile - all I expect.

But, as I said, that's just me. I don't like stereotypical behaviour.

The orchid-idea was a good one. If you know she likes the colour blue, you might want to look into a blue orchid?

And you know what I would probably do: I'm a fan of the single rose, so I would not combine it with other flowers.

Otherwise: Sunflowers could be nice too.

And don't overdo it. Not too much on the first date :)

you DO know I'm an English major, yes?;)

anyway, significance and relevance....use that list to basically write a note with the flowers. Translate it for her (or put it in the card with the flowers) For example, if you give her a yellow rose, when you give it to her, tell her it represents friendship...that kinda thing.

it works wonders on many females.

In twenty days, I'm going to see my girlfriend for the first time. I was a little curious what you think of my idea for flowers: 4 calla lilies and a single, long-stem rose.

This isn't linked to the 'I'm dating a midget' thread is it?
If so, don't get a long stemmed rose as it will drag

lillies make me think of funerals and roses make me think that either you are trying to hard or not trying at all.

however, a nice orchid or two? perfection.

yeah, that should at least get you a blowjob.

I tend to view conventional expressions of "romance" as the least romantic gestures there are. Giving flowers or chocolates or any of the other standard gifts is...well, it's standard. You'd give them to any girl. The girl on the receiving end could be any girl at all. It's so impersonal.

If you really want to be romantic, find out something about your girl in particular. Don't just find out what her favorite flower is...find out if she even wants flowers to begin with. Find out if there's something else that would make her smile more.

Flowers are a "safe" gift for a blind date or an impersonal-yet-cordial encounter. But if you want to be really romantic, show that you're willing to take a risk and get something more personal.

why yes, its like watching a movie except its real. This is fantasic!:-)
LOL Thanks.:p
Who's the lucky lady FD?
Pfft! I won't even tell you my name. Why would I tell you hers?:p
*shrug* I dunno. Mabye it impresses me more when it's a green flower...
Meh. She's not you...
He won't tell us. Afraid she'll be corrupted (by someone other than him).
Something like that...
Well he should tell me..as in TG me FD :P. I can keep a secret ;-)
Yeah, I bet you can...
Sure, you can, if only because you let your puppets tell them for you.
I have no puppets as of right now :-)

Plus I want to know, so i can rub it in..If i tell, then what fun is that?
You do have an interesting point...TBD already knows, so she gets gloating rights.:p
It is all a question of honor.

You must get honor and stay honor and it will all turn out well.
On it.
Nah, don't worry...

You already know what I think. :-p

Goodluck again anyway. :-)
Thanks.
*gives FD a condom*
Thanks, Ruffy.:p I take it you like the idea?
Well, you know me, I'm not someone for traditional/stereotype romantic ideas. I know that even though you haven't met her irl, you do know her for some time online. Wouldn't it be better to think of something personal to bring, instead of flowers?
That's just me, though.... the symbolism of flowers always tends to freak me out slightly. You cut them off, then put them in a vasr to watch them die slowly. I never understood how this came to be a symbol of love.
She loves the traditional stuff, but I know she'll appreciate a little personal twist. I'm working on that, too, but no one's gonna hear of it. It's all hush-hush, real quiet like and all....

Not too much on the first date :-)
Do e-dates count?:P Hmm...still pondering...
you DO know I'm an English major, yes?;-)

anyway, significance and relevance....use that list to basically write a note with the flowers. Translate it for her (or put it in the card with the flowers) For example, if you give her a yellow rose, when you give it to her, tell her it represents friendship...that kinda thing.

it works wonders on many females.
I've heard the rumors, yes.:P Yeah, that was the plan. lol
40 red roses, a teddy bear, and some tasty fudge was what glitzi recieved on our first date ;-)

then again, it was also valentine's day XD

however, the fact that you are considering this already/in-depth - and even which flowers in particular to get for her - is sweet :-)
Thanks. One of my friends told me it was sweet just that I was putting so much thought into it.:p
Depends upon how much of the sunflower you leave attached. Those things get freaking tall.
My grandfather grew some. They were some ten feet tall....
Try blue iris and white or peach roses... it makes a nice combination, and isn't quite as stark as calla lilies and a rose. Either way, I'm sure she'll like it.
Thanks. Something to consider....
Want to know what she really wants?

Just remember: spell out the alphabet.

Hopefully, someone will get that.
Oh, I know she wants more than that....Just not this time.:p
One word:

Spam.

Get her a nice can of Spam. It's a test gift. If she kicks out and gets pissed, she's to into having money spent on her. If she laughs, she has a sense of humor and will be worth the time.

Then you can give her the flowers. Or not, depending on how cheap you are.
Hehe, she just laughed when I told her you suggested that.XD I wouldn't be surprised if I got the can of spam.:P
I'd get a ring or a necklace or something.

Preferably silver...That's just my personal favorite, but it's cheaper than you might think, and it looks nice.
Not yet.
For a first date? Isn't that a little too much?
I think so.
As a girl, I would get a little freaked out about jewellery on a first date. Maybe for a birthday present after you've been going out for a while...
I've got just the thing in mind...
Mabey it's just my special "Ravean Persuasion."

Yeah...It has to be that.
Noted.;)
Very good idea. Just be sure to add something sparkly.:-p
Not yet.
Yeah. That would be quite odd.

A nice can of Spam however...

;-)
You really like that idea, don't you?:P
Well, I'd only expect someone who knew that I would take that well to try that one.. It could be disasterous if the girl didn't "get" it. :-p
Oh, she got it.XD
How does one get a girlfriend without seeing them?
Or how does one get a girlfriend?:-p

In my experience of online relationships, absolutely anything material that you give her immediately will be slightly overlooked, unless that sort of deed is heavily applied into your personality and she knows that.

It goes one of two ways. Either she is the type that'll act very casual, almost 're-starting the relationship' at first, or she'll be the type that jumps in your arms and freaks out. Everything else is middle ground.

That all being said, i'm a paranoid asshole as of seven weeks ago due to an ended relationship of this type. So meh.

I got a teddy bear for Valentines Day last year, and I LOVE it! I still sleep with it almost every night, even tho the relationship ended. It helps that he got it at Build-A-Bear, so he picked it out himself, helped stuff it, even put a little heart into it. Its one of my favorite stuffed animals :fluffle: :fluffle:
