My 6 year old PS2 is truly....sad. I have some cash saved up, and when/if I get my airsoft stuff sold, ill havr the money for a new console.

So, any input?

PS3- If it ever comes out, It'll be $499 in teh US, at least $100 in Europe, and teh Japanese get $100 off.

However, it'll be the best one of them... from the info I have

Wii- Middle in price and pwns0r. Solid choice.

XB360- Very similar to the last generation... :(

VISTA- Good lord, noone can tell

I'd put $50 bucks aside for SPORE and go for Wii, if I were you.

my PS2 died a few months back, I miss it so much I am just going to buy another one.

I hear from my 3 year old that I am getting the new nintendo, and I am pretty sure she isn't making it up....

How is this a paradox?

And choosing isn't hard...always pick the one that appeals to you. If they all appeal to you equally, then you should have no objections on which one you get.

You'd probably be better off in the long run to just keep your still functioning system and invest the money you have saved in Sony or some other stock. Or save it to invest in your own business or education on down the road. What's the point in spending all that money in a new system that you will just be bored with in a year or two (not to mention that it will soon be just as obsolete as your current system) with nothing to show for it.

I'm sure you didn't want this kind of advice, but what the hell. It's the best you're going to get. ;)

Wii of course. If you are going to buy a console on the pure shallowness of graphics go PS3. If you want a computer without a keyboard, go 360. Remember that a lot of 360 games are already featured on PC because of course, it is a microsoft product.

Ah, but you can still play GOOD shooters (i.e. Call Of Duty) on the PS2 and 3.

No reason to waste your money on a platform with no good games...

Okay too answer all questions, I know what a paradox is, and this clearly isnt one. Oh f*&%ing well. Second off, do you truly believe that the money I have saved up is my future education/living expense savings? The money is set aside for a new console or handheld system, and so is my college fund, and savings account, just too enlighten you. ;)

You don't have a hope in hell of that one being as it's now been put back(again) until next year EDIT: Just been looking into that and think it's EU only). Apparently they're having problems with blu-ray this time! The CEO of Sony admitted that their general quality has declined of late. This is the third recent embarassment for Sony recently as they made the batteries for Dell laptops and Apple powerbook which were recalled.

I have a 360 and it rocks! I don't buy into hype as I'm not a fanboy. The Wii looks like it could be fun, gaming wise the PS3 does nothing more than the 360 from the reviews given at E3.

It can't motion sensor to the same extent that a Wii can and has no-blu-ray. In terms of gaming ability pc's are 2-3 years behind the so-called "next-gen" consoles.

you are living in a dream world if you think you can get a PS3 this xmas. they are having "manufacturing problems" (gameconsolemakerspeak for artificially restricting supply to build up demand). the only way you can get one is if you decide to stand out in the cold for 2 nights with the rest of the gaming geeks.

you are living in a dream world if you think that your investment will be a mere $500. you have to buy a GAME dont you? they are going to TRY to keep the prices under $100. are you really going to be satisfied with ONE game? better choose wisely, grasshopper!

why would you buy the lesser unit anyway? is it going to be upgradable to the better one? (i cant remember if its the ps3 or the 360 (or both) that isnt upgradable).

so its $600, plus $100 for a game. thats quite a chunk of change.

id go for a WII or 360 if you like the games and a few computer upgrades for the same amount of money and wait for the ps3 to come down in price.

of course i dont have a big ass tv that could use the blueray for a better gaming picture. that might be a big draw for you.

thats why im getting one for my son this xmas.

im hoping (living in the dreamworld) that luscasart will some day put out a full sized light saber to go with a jedi training game (or something). the motion sensor should be very fun. and if not. the son will still use it.

Why will it suck? It's not truely "next gen" like they claim (except for the Wii as it's the only one that truely innovates here) but it is bigger/better/faster and so far I'm loving my 360.

That's exactly why it's going to suck. There's no innovation here except for the Wii. They're forcing us to invest another hundreds of dollars into consoles that do pretty much the same thing this generation did, only with grapical improvements.

uh

whats the point of having blu-ray for pc? just so you can read those higher density disks?

seems to me that sony is using ps3 to sell blu-ray. they are gambling that enough people will buy ps3 to make blu-ray the hdtv standard for playing movies. its irrelevant to me since i dont have a big screen tv so the normal tv signal is just fine for me. i dont anticipate having a huge screen for my computer any time soon so i dont need hd capabilities on it. it certainly doesnt matter to me if i have to use more disks to load a game onto my computer because i dont have a blu-ray reader. i expect it will take a few more years before those density wars are won. maybe THEN ill have to buy a new computer with a <winning format> drive on it.

for me, blu-ray just raises the price of a ps3 well beyond my desire to buy one.

Graphical, AI, speed, size of games and better online capabilities. I never played the Gamecube so can't comment on that one. Nintendo just doesn't seem to back up their consoles with the variety/amount of games like the others. I had a DS (which was fun) but it seemed that for the first year bugger all games come out for it which kinda pissed me off. Hopefully there will be more/quicker software support for the Wii than previous generations of Nintendo.

I'm going to have to. Mine's shot. I got it at the start of the generation and overplayed it. Now my reader is shot and the system conks out after extended sessions. Of course I wouldn't mind getting an XBox just to play Halo and Area 51.

Both good. Playing Area 51 was close to Half-Life in greatness! (HL is my fav game). Ninja Gaiden and Jade Empire are well worth a look also if you do.

For the same reason, I'll wait a year or two before I buy a blu-ray reader. If it dies, I lose nothing. If it takes off, it'll have dropped in price significantly.
