My computer refuses to display Chinese characters and stuff. Does anyone know where I can get them. I've already tried wikipedia and a search engine, so dont tell me to google it. Sometimes you need human knowledge.

Do you mean for writing or just for displaying?
For displaying, go up to 'View' menu on Firefox/IE and then to Character encoding. THere should be one there submenu option there that says 'Chinese Traditional (Big 5)'. Select that and online Chinese characters will be displayed.
If the option isn't there, you need to d/l it from Microsoft/Firefox.

On Windows (2000 and XP) go to Control Panel, Regional and Language Options click on the Language Tab (Should be the one in the middle) and check the two check boxes "Install files for complex scripts" and Install Files of East Asian Languages".

You'll need the XP CD for this.

Assuming you're running a windows machine: http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/handson/user/IME_Paper.mspx

For MAC:
http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/macbrowsers.html
or
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/mac/text/Text-30.html

Do those references help? If not Give me more info, and I'll see what I can do... (probably not much, but FWIW...)

Good luck. My work requires me to work with Simplfied Chinese text in (GB/HZ) code all the time, as well as occasionally (BIG5). It's a constant pain whenever someone does a system update at work, they just seem to forget there are languages other than English (U.S) in this world.

Already used google, eh?

Try AltaVista.

Or get hold of a Windows XP disc, and run it off there.

Informative, but I need the file. Usually a comp like this should come with just about everything. The last one I had displayed everything but Sanskrit and that area.
