Who is the better detective Monk or Columbo?

OK, so which one do you think is the best detective? Are they equally good?

Colombo has Monk beaten by this [--] much. Monk is a tad too egotistical for my taste, but that's all that I don't like about him.

Kirk and Picard... both are good, both have their own methods of doing things... and both should be judged by their own merits.

columbo has a glass eye, plus he always knows whodunnit from about 10 minutes in and the rest is watching him outsmart the culprit to get the evidence. columbo is smarter and more entertaining and he has a glass eye.

You just had to do it. Well, my vote is for MONK of course. :)

Columbo is just annoying - kind of like an adult Pig-Pen. The unwashed trenchcoat, dripping ashes, dishevelled, totally lacking organization. Ew.

The bordeline OCD in me loves Monk.

ahh... but did you know that is how Columbo investigates... he's observant and he puts just enough pressure on the perp to get him to confess.

Neither. Ms. Marple and Poiro (spelled wrong, without a doubt) are the best.

Also spelled wrong. No one can beat Monk as a detective, btw.

Both are great, but I love Monk too much not to vote for him.

Of course, if the question were about the best "current TV title character loosely based on Sherlock Holmes," Monk would end up in second place after all. Greg House pwns all. :p

Pshaaaw. Forgive me, but your head is as putty. Your mind has flown the coop. The barrier's down and the lights are flashing, but there ain't no train coming.

Columbo is your anima.

For instance, would this ever happen:

Holy Cow!! (http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=untitled1kg3.jpg)

Of course not.

I vote monk, but I think the format of his episodes are becoming repetitive.

Pffth! If this scene of Monk craziness doesn't convince you then I guess nothing will. One of the better scenes I think.

Pretty good. But on the homage-o-meter, Columbo is off the chart:

I'm a ship tossed at Sea!

First I'm like;
Because I'm Old and I actually remember Columbo before reruns, I'll vote for him...

Then I'm like:
But I watched that Monk guy just the other day and cracked my ass off laughing...

Then I'm like,
Yeah, but what part of Columbo isn't greater because that guy was just great in "The Princess Bride" (yeah yeah, I know, I meant it as a joke)

And then I'm like...
But that Monk guy is probably like that because he got his head blown off one too many times in MiB, it's not his fault and he could use the vote...

And then I'm like................................

Damn this topic, damn it to hell! :p I can't decide, I can't even decide to call them equal!

Far as I'm concerned Homer was mocking Columbo. Not giving him any kind of praise or honor in the impersonation.

He left parade to get some water.
