Keruvalia, how do we handle the bet if Congress splits?

Well Keru, I could end up owing you a bunch of cookies in a month or so as the polls seem to indicate, there is a real possibility the Dems could take the house. People are getting fed up with the Republicans. But how do we handle the bet if the Democrats take the House and the Republicans maintains the Senate?

Where is a good third party when you need them?

you sure the repubs will keep the senate?

IMO, it'll be a dem sweep in the house, and maybe a 6-8 lead in the senate.

oooo if the dems take both houses of congress (from my fingers to god's eyes eh?) bush will have to start actually doing his fucking job as executive!

he might have to compromise to get things done. he might have to actually VETO something.

he might be too damned busy to start another war

Damn good question.

Now, I'll still streak the RNC if Hillary runs for President. I'll even write "Soybomb" on my chest when I do it! (Some old timers will get that) But I still maintain she's not gonna run.

As for a split Congress ... damn ... ok ... if the Congress splits, I will personally run for my Congressional seat in 2008 on the Republican ticket. :D

What will be very bad is if the Dems win the House and the Repubs maintain a slim majority in the Senate. Nothing will get done. The Senate will block or not act on any legislation passed by the house. The House won't act on anything the Senate does. Hell, if that happens everyone should just stay home for two years. :( At least if the Dems win both houses they might come up with enough votes to overide any Presidential vetos.

now here's a question... what if they don't. both the house and senate end up with 50% (or close enough to not have a clear majority?)

I don't see that as a bad thing, quite frankly.

its better than whats going on now.

perhaps instead of getting nothing done, they will compromise in order to get the necessary stuff done. no more excess. that would be quite a refreshing change.

You don't think a split Congress with a lame duck President would be bad? Why? I would rather see the Dems take both houses than have a split Congress with a lame duck president.

Yes that would be a refreshing change, if they would compromise. Then again how could they not compromise on the important stuff? Maybe you have hit on something. :fluffle:

If Leg and Exe cannot agree/ do anything, then we'd be a judeocracy (sp?).

Not a bad thing at all. Although, we undoubtedly have different reasons for that opinion, it certainly beats the give--away Congress that we have now. Give--away my property, give--away my rights ...

Nazz, it's been a pleasure, pal. The fall in Georgia is too nice to waste indoors, so I'll catch up with you after deer season.
