When Jihadists go to the Opera ...

They won't see Mozart. Not in Berlin, anyway.

In a statement released late Monday, the Deutsche Oper said it had decided "with great regret" to cancel a planned production of Mozart's "Idomeneo" from its fall season, after Berlin security officials warned of an "incalculable risk" due to scenes dealing with Islam, as well as other religions.

I especially like the way the ynet article even qualifies that other religions may be offended. Sure, but they wouldn't tear down the opera house. That's a behavior that in this day and age is solely reserved for Muslims.

Next week, we can expect to see Shakespeare cancelled because the Moors are portrayed unfavorably in Othello.

We need to take advantage of this free labor force. Need a building demolished? Just cover it in nasty pics of the Prophet. Be done in no time without messy contract negotiations or licensing permits.

It's really a big thing here in Germany right now...
read here (http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,2187241,00.html?maca=en-tagesschau_englisch-335-rdf-mp).
But astonishingly the (mostly, but not only conservative) politicians condemning the cancelling are the very ones who infringe (or want to infringe) on our freedom and especially our privacy in the name of counterterrorism. Iespecially think of our Innenminister Wolfgang Schäuble.

I don't read German. How about an English link to whatever is supposed to debunk the statement?

How about all the other threads on this that noted it was a three-year-old production that wasn't doing too well and didn't actually get any threats?

Not so much. Remember the Sikh riots (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/4109315.stm) over an offensive play in Birmingham, for example?

It has been pulled. The problem is that there were no threats, and that other than "violence cannot be ruled out" (when can it?) there was no advice regarding it. Indeed, it premiered in 2003...and although some criticised it, nothing more happened since.

Now, mere days before a major meeting between the government and representatives of Muslim groups in Germany to figure out a grand scheme for the future...now all of a sudden they pull it. And most of the aforementioned Muslim groups think that decision is bullshit.

Fact of the matter is that the story you as well as KP and others have wanted to push with this, namely that Muslims are taking over Europe, doesn't exist, at least not in this case. Muslims were at no point involved in the whole affair.

But I can guarantee you one thing: If in a week or two they start the show again, they'll have a packed venue.

I also remember white Christian middle England getting all flustered about the Jerry Springer opera, so it is not purely down to other races

I'm sure that somewhere in the Great Beyond, Mozart is hearing about this, shrugging and heading into the kitchen to make a sandwich. :)

Probably, and muttering something about half-wits who add scenes to his operas getting what they deserve. (The scene is a very modern add-on.)

What kind of sandwich, do you think?

There's only one sandwich fitting for an artist of Mozart's calibre:

He'd probably write an opera about that! I can see the posters now: "Blondie: The Opera, music by WA Mozart, libretto by Lorenzo da Ponti, starring Leotyne Price as Blondie and Placido Domingo as Dagwood ..."

If Madonna wants to have a crucification play in her touring, she can expect threats and riots from Christians. If some opera director wants to add beheading scenes, inclufding that of Mohammad, into an opera because of his disdain for religion, he can expect threats and riots from Muslims.

No heckler's veto for Muslims. EVER.

If they want to protest, fine. If they threaten violence, provide security and protect their targets. If they succeed in committing violence, crush them with overwhelmingly disproportionate force.

Free speech is infinitely more important than Muslim intolerance and barbarism. End of issue.

Oh, and btw: the same argument applies to Christians protesting Madonna's latest irreverence, Fred Phelps and his WBC wackos, etc.

Oops, I forgot: Christians don't seem to have created an "incalculable security risk" to anyone lately :p

That Muslim rioting can be "expected" only shows to what extent we've allowed the situation to deteriorate. "Riots" against free speech are never acceptable under any circumstances. The proper response is beefing up security and (hopefully) bashing a few (hundred) rioters' skulls into bloody pulp :D

I know you tend to cream your jeans when typing shit like "crush them" "bashing a few (hundred) rioters' skulls into bloody pulp," but there haven't been any riots or threats about this issue.

You're just slamming strawmen. But hey, any excuse to indulge in your adolescent fantasies about violence, eh?

Actually that's a seriously good idea. Just put a sign up to give the impression that it's an active organisation inside, and then sit back and wait for a car stuffed with explosives to appear.

Put it on the dagwood. That is the nature of the dagwood. Observe:

As you can see from this image, anything and everything belongs on a dagwood. There's a freakin' fish in there! Right under the egg. see it? And a small lobster(or large prawn). A little nutella isn't exactly radical. :p
