I plan to start a series of weeklong polls to determine the exact best place to live on earth. I will provide a wikipedia link to each poll option, and use wiki's boarders and maps. So first we start broad:

North America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America) includes hawaii, caribbean according to me.
South America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_America)
Europe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe)
Africa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Africa)
Asia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asia)
Australasia?? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australasia)
Antartica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antartica)
Oceans, As in on a boat, not an island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceans)

I predict that at least 75% of the people here will just name wherever they live.

Don't you want to have adventure, the thrill of living somewhere new and exciting? Aren't you bored with where you are now? See the world, keep your mind open!!

(trying to get diverse results...)

Whether or not I want to live elsewhere has no bearing on whether or not people will put wherever they live. That's what they always do on polls like this.

Anyway, I have lived in strange and foreign places. I lived in Germany for a couple of years and Colorado for a year. I've spent time in much of western Europe, and parts of the Middle East (although that part wasn't really by choice). I'll also be spending 4 months in France this spring. However, I still maintain that 75% of the people will chime in with wherever they live.

So what are the pros and cons of the different places you lived? What did you like/dislike about europe and the middle east?

I think the best places to live are on an island in the Pacific Ocean(like Hawaii) or in the Caribbean. But since I didnt see a choice that corresponded to that like Oceania...i didnt vote.

It depends if you include Central America in the North American category.

Going with this:
"Geopolitically, all of Panama—including the segment east of the Panama Canal in the isthmus—is often considered a part of North America alone."

So what are the pros and cons of the different places you lived? What did you like/dislike about europe and the middle east?

The good things about Germany were that I lived near Frankfurt, which is an extremely awesome town with a lot to do. The trains and buses were fantastic and I felt much safer there than I have in any major US city. The cons are that it rained a lot and when I lived there I wasn't used to living in an urban environment (I'm from a very rural area). The rain wasn't enough to really matter, but it was just enough to annoy the hell out of you, and it did it all of the damned time. All things considered, it's a really nice place to live.

There really aren't many good things about Colorado, specifically the Colorado Springs area. It's hot, dry, and the people are extremely rude. There was a lot to do, and the Springs is a very vibrant town (something I hadn't experienced in the US before that), but I just don't like the climate or the people.

The Middle East (specifically Iraq) has all of the bad things that Colorado has, in addition to the inhabitants shooting at you. Not without reason, of course, but it's still not an ideal situation. On the other hand, Iraqis are friendlier when driving than Coloradoans are. Of course, it may have had something to do with the fact that I was armed.

Anyway, my favorite place in the world is Geneva, Switzerland. It's a very clean, nice town with a lot to do, and it doesn't feel like a big city.

And as for Michigan (where I've spent most of my life) I love it because it's home. I'll almost certainly end up out of state when I finish school, in fact I intend on moving to Europe, but Michigan will always be home.

Moles have no fortresses, they only have stations.
