Can somebody please tell me how in the hell they fit a 5 litre engine in a smart car.I assume it has to be in the wheel base.

I wanna know how they developed a 5 litre engine that only delivers 84 HP. My 4.6 litre delivers 280... Seems like an 84 horse power engine would have trouble climbing speed bumps.

but how did they only manage to get 84 horses out of a 5litre diesel lump? that's even worse than american style power to capacity ratios.

I think it must be a typo. It's a 5,675cc (that's 5.7 litres), six cylinder diesel & the standard engine only delivers 42bhp. It just doesn't add up.
Cannot think of a name

It could be that it's diesel, and most of diesel's push is in torque, not horsepower. I don't know for sure if it would be like that.

It's still going to be more than 84hp though.

The Peugeot 1.6 litre diesel has 89hp.

Well, I once read of an old Mini where they put a big bike engine in the cabin. It would make horrible noise and spit oil at the driver, but it was pretty fast. :D

Then there was a racing Nissan Micra or something with an M3 engine. You just have to move the driver out of the way, and you can fit it into the cabin. I'd assume they did the same thing here.

This would probably be something like an Unimog Engine, and I have a perpetrator in mind - the OM352 (http://www.danialcar.com/om352.htm) fits the bill almost perfectly. Although it says 96kW here, in the original Unimogs it was only rated for 80bhp (according to wiki, anyways). So this might be the one, since it says that it used other Unimog parts, and it couldn't be fully tweaked if it had to sit next to the driver in the cabin, and the whole thing isn't meant for performance anyways.
