Um... the show itself decided to cancle itself, the Muslims didn't even have a chance to work up their anger on it (not to mention the production was three years old at this point).

Exactly.

This was most likely a marketing stunt for a pretty poor version of a Mozart Opera. Everyone asked about it couldn't believe that they cancelled it for that reason. The politicians called it ridiculous, and the Central Council of Muslims reckons its a bullshit idea.

Ah, censorship! Now theatre is being affected because of extremists. I suppose that giving in to them is the way to end extremism?

Es war ganz anders und harmloser: Das Opernhaus stützt sich auf eine 'allgemeine Gefahrenanalyse', eine konkrete Bedrohung gibt es nicht.

So, basically, the director developed paranoia and cancelled the show after 3 years... oh, yes. Bad muslims. Bad and evil muslims.

When is this gonna end?Eh? According to the article, they had no part in all of this except that they were anticipated to be pissed off about a production that was going to feature the severed head of their prophet.

Does it bother anyone that just five years ago fear for your physical safety wasn't a concern when you thoought about whether or not to express yourself politically, socially or artistically?

I dont know I supose thats what they were going for with the macheties

Fabianus Tibo, 60, Marinus Riwu, 48, and Dominggus da Silva, 42, were found guilty of leading a Christian militia that launched a series of attacks in May 2000 including a machete and gun assault on an Islamic school where dozens of men were seeking shelter.

Sure it is bothersome. Now with some people, you say something like what you did and you'll get a "why do you hate America?" thrown at you. Depressing. :(

Everytime I remember about that it just annoys me even more. Someone trying to fight against terrorisim and pumping up the fear of this country tells them to "bring it on"?

i created a repeat of this thread without realizing this was already made. heres the op i posted for the other thread:

normally it wouldnt bother me that an opera got canceled

i wouldnt have even cared a slight bit. but the reasoning here brings up a good question of how our society is going to change in order to keep peace.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/09/27/berlin.opera.ap/index.html

its an opera being cancelled because some are worried it will upset muslims.

After its premiere in 2003, the production by Hans Neuenfels drew widespread criticism over a scene in which King Idomeneo presents the severed heads not only of the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon, but also of Mohammed, Jesus and Buddha

funny how it is only the muslims they are worrying about offending. the opera seems to equally portray prophet/prophet like people from greek mythology, Christianity, and Buddhism.

That's just because the Bhuddists haven't found out about it yet. If they had they'd be cutting heads off left and right.

Yeah, that whole "peaceful" and "enlightened" thing of theirs is just a cover for when the Buhddist terrorists are unleashed on the good unsuspecting Christian people. We should begin preparations immediately. :p :D

Buddhists are very loving people. They'd probably just hug the cast members. After they've doused themselves in gasoline and set themselves on fire, of course.
